What Books Are You Reading Right Now?

This book was disturbing, of course, I knew about slavery but... The author did a great job of assembling details about the English slave trade, especially related to the slave ship The Zorg.

I'm currently reading "Apple in China- The Capture of the World's Greatest Company" by Patrick McGee. I'm about half way and it's some story. I knew very little about Apple and the history is a good read in itself, amazing how they did things. It's not too technical, even I can understand most of what went on.

#3 in the Home sites. Escaping Home by A. American. (Obviously a non de guerre.)

I knew about the Alex Murdaugh trial but didn't really follow it or anything about him. A good friend recommended this book to me and it's really good. This chronicles the Murdaugh family history, how they controlled a county in rural South Carolina. At no point was this boring, so many people involved and their stories, too.

Elliot did you ever come across any of these scumbags in your professional career?
Not those specific folks. But yeah, in general. Some during the course of investigations. Some at family gatherings, weddings, funerals etc.
One, (family member), who I gave counsel to when he was arrested for his role up in NYC.

Some of Gotti's relatives were at weddings where I had to request that I not be seated at the same table.

I only met John Gotti once by happenstance. I was getting on the elevator in the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, and two marshals were escorting him in cuffs to a courtroom. He looked over at me, nodded and said "how you doin'?". I looked at the cuffs and replied "Better than you". True story.

I also sat in on the Boston College point shaving trial at that same courthouse. It featured Jimmy Burke, (played by De Niro in Goodfellas), and Henry Hill, (played by Ray Liotta).

I had a family member who worked at the bar where the movie portrayed the killing of "Spider".

So...yeah. LOL

That's amazing. They are so much a part of popular culture one almost thinks they are fiction but they are real.

By coincidence I was half a mile away from Sparks Steak House on the evening of December 16th 1985.
My brother and I were visiting NY on holiday and we were staying just off Time Square. I remember seeing a crazy amount of patrol cars all over the place but we only found out the next day what had happened.
Of course neither of us had any idea what it was all about. It was only years later when the movies came out I realised what had actually happened.😝

I just finished this. It's not usually a topic I am interested in but it turned to absolutely brilliant. Full disclosure I purchased this through Audible.

I heard this is good. I listened to a podcast about Hoffa not too long ago and learned a lot.

This is yet another facet to your mystery. My fair lady and I are watching (7 episodes in) the Paramount+ dramatized show about the story behind the making of The Godfather film. I had heard about some of the backstory, but I had no idea about all the twists and turns that took place before the camera ever started rolling. Joe Columbo and his compatriots were significantly in the mix. Miles Teller is great in the role of real life producer Albert Ruddy, who is the source material for this project. Recommended.
