What Books Are You Reading Right Now?

This is yet another facet to your mystery. My fair lady and I are watching (7 episodes in) the Paramount+ dramatized show about the story behind the making of The Godfather film. I had heard about some of the backstory, but I had no idea about all the twists and turns that took place before the camera ever started rolling. Joe Columbo and his compatriots were significantly in the mix. Miles Teller is great in the role of real life producer Albert Ruddy, who is the source material for this project. Recommended.
Saw it. Enjoyed it.

According to Charles Brandt who interviewed Ruddy’s widow when he wrote his book, Russel Bufalino had final approval on the Godfather script.

On the topic of gangster stuff I read this book quite some time ago:

The Westies: Inside the Hell's Kitchen Irish Mob

By T.J. English

I thought it was really good. Interesting to say the least.

Gonna have to look into this one.

Currently reading Dreamseller by Brandon Novak from the CKY/Jackass crew. Talks about his deep deep heroin addiction, its pretty blunt about it. And also listening to Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, on Audible.

They used to do contract killings for the various mob families in NYC
I believe the name of the Irish contract killer, Whitey Bulger was the one the Feds found at a Condo building about 1 1/2 blocks from my Apt in Santa Monica Ca about 20 years ago now.

I remembered seeing a nice older than me lady with a smaller white poodle when out walking my Terrier & letting the dogs say hello while we chatted briefly a few times.

The lady was how they tracked him down from what I read about the take down!

An anthology of short fiction set in and about Dallas. I edited and wrote the Introduction. IMG_2313.jpeg

It was published by Akashic Books in 2013 as part of their hugely successful Noir series.
It’s also recorded and available via Audible and elsewhere as a very good audio book if you like to listen to your fiction. More info here: https://www.akashicbooks.com/catalog/dallas-noir/

Read a ton of fantasy over the last 2 decades, but managed to skip a lot of classic sci-fi. Making up for that now, up next is the Expanse.

The Expanse Books and Tv. Series are/is the BEST Sci Fi I've experienced !

Here is the new book by the Authors of the Expanse. I just got it from the library and only a few pages in, so no opinions yet.

Oops! I read quite a bit and my memory isn't great on what I've read. I waited months to get "Hail Mary" from the library, got it and realized I'd read it 4 years ago. Oh well, back to some light reading, waiting for newer books to be released.

I have kept track of the books I've read on "goodreads" for the past several years. Might be worth a try. I've come across more than a couple here and there which I'd already read but forgotten the title or author.

I took my girl to see Hail Mary at the theater. I found it ok but not great. I've not read the book.

Just finished "the Devil's Bible" by Steve Berry. I've always enjoyed the Cotton Malone series but this one seemed to drag a bit for me. Maybe it was his over trying to mix up the characters, I got through it and will probably read the next one.

A friend recommended "Where Does the Water Go" about the Colorado River. I've read several books on water in the West, this the lightest reading of them. David Owen does a good, non technical job of following the river. If you live in the West or have an interest in the water issue, read "Cadillac Desert' by Marc Reisner, written in 1986 this is still the best.
