What Brands Won't You Buy Again?

Well put. I actually bought a CRKT Zilla Tool after saying I'd never buy another CRKT product. I later gave it away because a co-worker thought it was cool.
What didn't you like about the zillatool? I might get one, as of now, the Aussie dollar is doing absolutely crap(1 AUD buys 0.63USD, at the start of the year, 1AUD bought 0.96USD), so the prices of leathermans are super high ATM :(.

CRKT - Had several of their knives, never found one that actaully "fit" and was comfortable to use. Some of their designs are neat, but for me they felt cheap and unworkable. I know a lot of people like them and all the more power to them, but not for me.

Spiderco - They make some great knives, but their handle designs just don't fit my hands. the ones I've seen/used were great quality, just uncomfortable.

Frost Cutlery. That and all the cheapo knock-off knives are about it. And more than likely, Dark Ops. Most of the other companies that are discussed on these forums have at least one model that usable.

Camillus, but then it would be hard to anyways. But when M.r Becker starts making knives again, i'll have to put in an order with his. Too bad about that.

I can't say I have a brand I would NEVER buy again. I can tell you I was disappointed in my Spyderco Native and my CRKT M16 and that is a ding against them for future purchases. I can tell you that there are some brands that will always get my first look when I'm shopping because of their customer service. Kershaw for one. If it comes down to 2 knives to choose from and one is a Kershaw, it will probably get the nod.

I pretty much agree with the OP I hate/will never buy again:

Cold Steel: They're the most overrated knife company in the business. I once bought a knife from them that cut 2000+ pieces of cardboard in the "solid proof" video. Out of the box.. i cut one side of a cardboard box and it chipped in three places. Sorry cold steel.. your knives are overrated, overpriced, and not as good as you make them out to be. Plus they offer a full line of 100% undetectable plastic knives. Anyone remember 9/11?

CRKT: My first crkt was chisel ground (worst grind for any knife), and lost an edge like crazy. My second was $75 bucks and was ground on both sides but still couldn't keep an edge for anything. My 3rd possible fell off the display counter at the knife store, hit the concrete and the handle shattered. Sorry CRKT: your knife steels are to soft, and badly ground. Your "cool" designs are practical nightmares, and the autolawks system is the most ridiculous locking system in the industry.

SOG: Never bought a sog, never will. Too overpriced for the steels they use, and every SOG folder I've ever handled has had terrible blade play. Sogs are believed to be issued to the military... I don't believe it. And if they are, i'll bet most soldiers hate them.

Gerber: Have an old Gator and it's great, had 2 old other gerbers and they were great (all US made). Now.. i'll never buy another because after everything started being made in taiwan... it all just blows. Plus.. gerber wont tell you what blade steel they use anymore (unless it's US made). I used to sell them... doesnt say on the blade, box, catalog, or website what the steel is in most of their knives. Sorry Gerber, some knife companies that make US made knives and also make knives in china/taiwan (Benchmade/Spyderco) still rock, you don't. Also.. tell people what steel is in the knife they want to buy. Not telling them means it's probably crap and they won't buy it.

P.S.
Spyderco,
For putting their name "Spyderco" on a Chinese made knife (Tenacious). They all ready had the Byrd line of Chinese made knives and I was fine with that, but when you take what is basically a Byrd knife and mark it Spyderco and mark the price up $10.00 to 20.00 that is out of line.

I don't wish to get into an argument, but sorry bro, that's a dumb reason to not like Spyderco. If you don't like what they did, just buy the Byrd. Perhaps it costs more to produce the Tenacious. From the looks and reviews I've read the Tenacious has a better fit and finish than most byrds.

I won't be buying from Gerber again anytime soon, unless they come out with something that really blows me away.

When you can pick up a knife like the SOG Twitch II in AUS 8 (instead of mystery steel) for about $40.00, nothing in their product lineup really seems that appealing to me.

I don't even carry my Gerber multitool any more, even though I've been meaning to have them fix the tools with the tips broken off... Just so it's not sitting around unused.

In my opinion, there are too many good alternatives, for just about very pattern or design out there in the knife industry, so I can honestly say that I won't buy another of a particular brand:

Gerber: I have an old MultiTool, U.S. made, and it's still working well & tight after all these years. The last two imported Gerber products I've had, a Clutch and an Evo Jr., were terrible. No edge holding ability, lost interest in carrying them pretty quick. (I'll buy the old U.S. made Gerbers, if a good deal presents itself)
Smith & Wesson: This brand got me back into knives a few years ago, but after realizing that the first one I bought was a copy, of a copy, I got turned off by them. Okay users, I guess, but I've looked at too many that had issues to buy any more. (Same as Gerber - I'll buy the old S&W's, as I don't consider the old U.S. made S&W's to be the same as the new branding by Taylor's.)
BEAR MGC: They took over some of the Boy Scout knife production after the unfortunate demise of Camillus, and every one I looked at (at our local Scout shop) had problems, and were way over-priced as well.
BRKT: Business practices.
Ontario, and by purview of ownership, Queen: The whole R.A.T. debacle. :grumpy:

thx - cpr

Al Mar... whoa, don't kill me. I think that Al Mar knives are extremely well-made. I just have a problem with paying $100 for a piece of AUS-8. The designs appeal to me, but the price point doesn't.

The SERE 2Ks and the Shrike I have are VG-10, so not all of them are AUS-8.

I forgot about the SERE 2000 and the Shrike (and the Nomad), my bad. I still think Al Mar's price for VG-10 is too much, considering what Spyderco is putting out.

Yeah, the Sere Auto (made by Benchmade) comes in s30v, and the Sere Operator is s30v or vg10, the Sere and Mini Sere are vg10, as are the Shrike, Nomad, Payara. The shiva is laminated vg10, the Auto Eagle is made of ats34. The smaller Al Mar's are aus8, but they come with high end handle materials. These Japanese made knives are very well made and the Al Mar customer service is the best you can get. In this life you get what you pay for.

I own some Spyderco's and I like them, but when I open my Al Mar's and that liner lock clicks in, the lockup has no play. It is like a tank. The g10 handles, the great workmanship all add up to a winner. What Al Mar knives do you have?

any and every knife/knife company that produces bladeplay is on my list.:grumpy:
blade slop makes me sick :barf:
especially when I've spent $400 on the knife.
