What Brands Won't You Buy Again?

MisterSat I may be wrong about Gil Hibben its just that every time I have owned a fantasy type knife and was cheap made it had designed by Gil Hibben. I dont know much about him personaly but Im not crazy about those fantasy type knives. Im not going to get into a pissing match here but that is my opinion. I may be wrong about it. If so then forgive me.

No pissing match. Just wondering where you were coming from.

Hibben has made and designed a lot more than fantasy knives over many years. He designed Brownings original line of knives back in the 1960s. United has also made many of his designs in hunting and Kenpo knives over many years.

I have a Hibben designed Pro Folder from United Cutlery that I bought in 1998 and it has served me very well. I have also found the Hibben/United throwing knives to be very good and a real value.

Mainly, I wanted to point out that a Hibben knife and a Hibben designed knife made by someone else are differnt things. Hibben's handmade knives have earned their place as among the best you can get. Hunters and soldiers have been saying so for over 50 years.

I will never buy another...

Gerber - The new ones produced are just crap.

CRKT - I had a liner lock fail on me and got 8 stitches and loss of feeling up the left side of my left and plus a sweet scar.

New Schrade - Again crap like the gerbers

Smith and Wesson - I have had two of their pistols fail. One .357 relvoler blowed the cylender in half and a .22lr pistol slide cracked. If they produce shit pistols they probally produce shit knives.

Any fixed blade knife made by anyone other than RAT Cuttlery. I have the RC-4 and with the fit and finish of the knife and the preformace I will never need another and if I want a smaller or or larger one they got me covered. I am a life time loyal customer to RAT now.

Ill have to disagree with S&W producing crap pistols and revolvers. I have had dozens and have half a dozen now and they are far far from crap. Since you had a cylinder fail I would say it was your ammo or your reloading abilities. Their knives have nothing to do with their pistols.

Schrade (Chicom rebranding)
Just to clarify, without being political, Taylor has most of the current Schrade-brand knives imported from China. But some have been contract-made by American manufacturers as well - Camillus, Bear, and others.

Timberline
I had a Vallotton open up on me in my frp. Just an overall poor design. Liner lock was too thin. Closer detent was nearly non exsistent.
In most cases you get what you pay for.

probly the whole "ninjaesque, samurai, spiritual" vibe mr.ki has. add to that the prices he has on his knives makes people raise an eyebrow. much like they do with mr.heartsfield. seems if you set religion or spirituality by a knife people think you're a joke.

if i had the money i would get a ki.never heard anything bad about the knives only hear bad things about the man and those "bad" things are his beliefs. rather strange for people to attack another person because of their beliefs. Oh wait...

+1:thumbup: on S&W Firearms.I've used them my whole life & never had a malfunction.I don't reload & always buy factory ammo.

I know this is a knife thread, but had to throw in my .02 on this.

Their knives do pretty much suck & shouldn't be confused with their firearms.

I would certainly stay clear of any knife which bares all the hallmarks of a made in Pakistan knife.

Ranger, although I heard they are being outsourced to Ontario. I had a very bad experience both with the knife and the maker. Never again.

Wow that's the first negative opinion I've ever heard about Justin & Ranger Knives.

I've talked with him on the phone & through emails & IM's.In my experience,he couldn't be more patient, friendly & thorough about getting my order just right.

Maybe you caught him on a bad day. We're all guilty of having those.

Strictly speaking, I don't expect to buy anything from any maker again, not because I am dissatisfied with any of them, but because the ones I have patronized have done their job all too well. At present, I own two Spyderco Delica and Endura models, and a Buck 110. These work so well for me that I don't need to look further. Unless any are lost or broken, I'm done.

This admission probably puts me at the fringe of the knifeknut community, but I make up for it with a bunch of SAKs and Leathermen. I've always been more a multi-tool guy, anyway. :)

I probably never buy another knife made in China or Taiwan regardless of who makes it.

Gerber--if you are buying a first knife for a young boy, then they are perfectly acceptable, but i would never buy one for myself. Poor steel, all their folders have too much blade play and why waste $20-$40 on crappy steel when i could be saving for a Sebenza....?! not financially responsible.

SOG - their steady demise from cool and quality to cartoony has been sad to witness. :(

CRKT - not to pile on but every new knife design I see from them is an immediate "WTF"?

Ontario Knife Co. - I can't be the judge of how great their knives are. Just a wrong purchase for my needs. I bought an long, ugly, gun-black, survival knife from them and have never used it. So, I doubt I'll be silly enough to buy another one. My buddy used it one for making kindling though and he said it did a nice job.

Cold Steel overpriced
Gerber sellout bad quality.
CRKT edge holding ability (none)
Taylor Brands
United Cutlery Brands
Strider
Falkniven (just can't afford "em):grumpy:
