Did you round those bolsters slightly? Your 703 looks more svelte than mine does.
I have not made any modifications to the knife but it’s possible that a previous owner might have.Did you round those bolsters slightly? Your 703 looks more svelte than mine does.
Mine has the sharp edged bolsters, and script lettering. I'm not exactly sure when I bought it, but probably early 1980s.I have not made any modifications to the knife but it’s possible that a previous owner might have.
My pre-1986 701 has sharp corners on the bolsters. I just noticed the difference last night before I read your post this morning.
The 700 series may have been made by someone besides Buck in the early years. I have to wonder if whoever that was made the bolsters a little sharper at the corners.
Is your 703 a pre-1986 model by any chance?

Thanks. This has stimulated my curiosity. I have a mix of pre-1986 and 1986 and later models. I will get them all out later today and check the bolsters on each one.Mine has the sharp edged bolsters, and script lettering. I'm not exactly sure when I bought it, but probably early 1980s.

The bolsters on my 1989 703 are rounded like yours. I wish mine still looked like yours! The bolsters on mine are a bit dinged up and have a kind of pitted or sandblasted appearance, and the black has been worn away from the lettering on the shield. (Hmmm... maybe I need to post it in the Traditionals "Pocket Worn" thread.
