What Budget Knife Suprised You?

Ontario Utilitac II for it's amazing smoothness and tough build.

Lansky Responder for it's awesome blade shape and great flipping action.

Kershaw Strobe for giving me a bearing flipper from Diskin.

Kershaw Thermite for all the features you get for the price. Hinderer design, lockbar stabilizer, spanto grind, frame lock.

Spyderco Tenacios.

It was the sharpest out-of-the-box knife I've ever received compared to my US and Japan Syperdercos, My Benchmades, and ZT's. It's a great slicer and is super easy to sharpen. It's currently used as my beater knife.

Just bought a Ontario Rat 1 after reading this thread so hope yall didn't steer me wrong

My current answer: Mora Companion. I have three of the stainless steel versions and gifted another. Great knife

Kershaw CQC-4K. It surprised me by snapping closed and nearly taking my middle finger off.

Any of the Moras.

I have a no 1, no 2/0, Companion MG, Bushcraft Black, and fillet knife. All are amazing, and all were affordable not cheap.

Got a Spyderco Centofante 3, on sale, right before Christmas, for less than $ 50 delivered. Mine is flawless, except for the inletting on the bug - it sits a tad high. Astoungingly well done knife, for the price.:p:thumbup:

i got a bunch of my friends into composite leeks and i like them as little light use slicers, but if the eese izula counts as budget that one has most surprised me in terms of how much abuse that little knife can take. it is probably my most carried knife

i don't think you can beat the spyderco byrd series or the rough rider knives and for the fixed blades the mora series.!** any of these will take of your needs if you take care of them.

I will also agree with Mora. I love mine and am actually going to pick up a new one soon in a different color.

Also, and I may catch some heat for this, my Gerber Prodigy has been pretty solid for me. Chops wood with ease and holds an edge well while being comfortable in my hand.

The Roadie by Spyderco. It falls within the parameters set by the OP but in my opinion superior to the impression that the word “budget” conjures up.

I purchased it as a novelty knife due to the departure from Spyderco’s norm. I was pleasingly surprised when it arrived by the fit and finish within the price range, but really shouldn’t have been because of the company’s quality production standards I'm familiar with. The size was smaller than I expected which made it even more appealing from my perspective.

Not made with pocket clip; just drop it in pocket and go. Add a lanyard, if desired, so you can find it in your pocket more easily.
If you like slip joints and don't have a hang up that this is not a Traditional, this may be a good "pocket drop" for you.

Not to derail, but I'd never heard of that one before. Just looked it up. There's something about the looks of that little thing that I like. :)

My Ontario rat 1 surprised me with how much of a beating it could take. And secondly, I can't even count how many times my SAK Farmer II came in handy.

Rat 1 and my 3 Cold Steel folders (mini and regular Recon and American Lawman). IMHO, they are worth WAY more than I paid for them and outperform many knives that cost a lot more.

Hey man what do you prefer: regular recon 1 or American lawman?

This was a Xmas gift from my Grandson. There's no maker's mark on it. The 3 1/2" blade holds an edge as well as any budget steel. It's an easy touch up with a ceramic rod. It has real G10 handles with stainless stand offs. It has a surprisingly solid linerlock with zero bladeplay. The Ergos are spot on. It's an excellent value for $16.

Kershaw tremor is by far my best for buck it's a 20$ zero tolerance. And then the case sodbuster it was about 35$ and the cv steel is fantastic fit and finish was on point

I have a Hinderer clone, a Inron MY803 (9Cr13MoV) I found at a pawn shop for $10. Also, I guess this is cheating, but I got my employee discount at a outdoor store that was closing and got a Kershaw Avalanche (S30V- spring assist) for $40.

The Leek composite if it's still under $50.

Rat folders.

I sure like my old Buck 110 too.
