What did you do to/with your Becker today?

i cleared out a buncha blackberries and volunteer saplings, mostly by chopping into the ground, and then giving them a sidewise whack with the flat of blade.

put a few chips in their too. rocks. stuff. that's abuse ;) comes right out with a file and a few seconds work and voila, close enough new edge.

used a variety of KaBar knives and a Gerber/Fiskars brush hook.

best chopped in the bunch for me, length, weight, balance, i hate to say is the Gerber Parang; steel is soft, but it's tough, and i can fix an edge with a smooth rock in seconds.

actually like the KaBar Johnson Parang quite a bit. harder steel, and i've beat on that thing. 1095cv is good stuff. sometimes i bust out the zomstro or the pirate chopper :D

oh, yeah, Becker content :) surprise, i'm using a BK7 more (the new one) as KaBar gave us one at the gathering.

mostly i needed reach today, so, length wins.

for less fine ground clearing, i'll go scythe everyday. no need to bend or kneel, and the same tool picks up and cuts. good.

New BK7?

You gotta up those reps, bro, if you want to pump up some callouses.
That isn't gonna work, cause each additional rep produces an immediate hazard for bodily harm due to those ridiculously slippery handles. Think about the children people!!!!

The Gerber parang above the Parangatang Bladite ? Really ? The Parangatang is a pretty amazing chopper.

really.

the forward weight really helps.

i love me some parangs...

the paranatang has better steel and heat treat and it amazingly effective...

but for deeeep chopping, the Gerber just has more weight, and more forward weight.

both are excellent, and i use them more than most things i have right now.

unless i'm using a saw, or loppers, or powered equipment... :D

I grabbed my 15 and helped cut up vegetables for a pasta salad, then cut up a lime and strawberries for some homemade ice cream.

Left the ESEE's at home this weekend, and absolutely USED my BK-9 and 16 to the point where it got silly. I beat that 9 through every piece of firewood it would span, (Hard and soft wood), chopped up desert grease bush for hours, and whittled it to death with the 16. I cannot say enough good about these blades. They HOLD an edge, are VERY well designed, and just beg to be used!

Packed my BK3 into my checked bag. Hoping some handsy TSA agent doesn't decide I'm not responsible enough to own such a "dangerous weapon" - along with another small fixed blade and two folders and a multitool.
You know I should've never said anything about not having issues...I checked mine today and the airline as of now has lost my luggage. My bk2 and other knives are out there somewhere, and hoping they find they way back soon.

That's a bummer, man. Hopefully it will make it to you soon. Most airlines can track it down pretty quickly.

I think I've decided that I'm going to carry a blade that I don't mind if it disappears.

Stonewashed my BK7.

The tumbler is 4" PVC pipe with a cap on one end and a screw in plug on the other. I used two different sizes of aquarium gravel for the media, along with a good shot of WD-40. I wrapped the PVC tube in a blanket and then taped throw pillows on the outside so it wouldn't kill my dryer. It went into the dryer for 2 hours with no heat.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

Now I just have to resharpen it because the stonewashing completely dulls the edge. My KME sharpener will make pretty quick work of it though.

Today I thought the BK2 could do with a touch up. So I hit it with some superfine sandpaper, and little time on the polishing wheel.

Then I decided to use the Ken Onion and change the blade angle from 25 degree angle to 22.5. It's scary sharp now.

Went from this

To this

Nice stonewashing, slasher! ;)

Gassy, that looks really nice. I just got a Ken Onion WS the week before and put my 11 on it to touch up the edge after it came back from the crawdad camping trip:

Hot DAMN the 11 is sharp now! Afterwards I got out my dremel and some small files and put jimping on the spine towards the grips as well as a couple lines on the tip.
Also sanded down the guard a little too to make the edge smoother.

Basically I got a hair up my arse and just went to town on it, haha.

Unfortunately, the work is pretty rough looking and not exactly clean by any standard. The positive side is that the jimping feels good so that's all I was really going for.
Also, it was the first time I ever tried to do that and I learned a couple things on the way.

roll stamped 15? actually haven't seen that before - sweet

It sure is! There are a few of them running around out there. My wife has one too. She keeps hers with our camping stuff as her go-to camp kitchen knife.

I was quite grateful to receive this one from Ethan at the Spring gathering.

Looks good to me mate, as long as it is comfortable and functions how you want it to, well youve won. That KE worksharp has a bit of a learning curve to it, but if you drop the angle to 22.5 degree, your knives are scary sharp. make sure you grab some spare belts as well to put away.

Prepped my mixing stick with my Cam 11 for epoxying new scales to my 15. Also opened a couple beers with the 11. It's handy for that.
Hopefully this makes sense:

You make those Granite? Wouldn't mind seeing the finished product, they look good from what I can see.

I did; check out the "Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification" thread.....that's usually where I post this sort of stuff. Scales are katalox with some thin maple "liners"; black Micarta mixed into the epoxy to fill in the filework and fitted with brass pins. Hoping imagineering aligns with reality. If not, it'll still be OK - won't be too far off what my plan was, at any rate. And thanks!
