What did you do to/with your Becker today?

I finally got around to stripping the worn coating off my bk2 today. I guess making the 90° spine yesterday motivates me to get it going.

My plan was to polish it, blue it, then polish it again after stripping it. However once I saw the condition of the steel after stripping it'll have to wait...Would take some serious elbow grease to do it by hand.

It'll get done sooner or later, and I'll add blue and black g10 scales for a finishing touch.

Looks good.

First ; I admired and played with my BK-16 . cut up some 550 cord , batoned some wood and accidently nicked my finger . Finally ; I cleaned the blade on put it up for the moment .

Looks good.
Thanks, I definitely wasn't prepared for the deep tooling marks and pits all over thou. No wonder there coating is so thick, reminded of that wicked thick cheater car primer people use to get out of fixing small dents lol. Some of the pits are pretty deep, I've seen people say start with 1k grit paper to polish after stripping, I started with 320 (lowest I had at midnight)sanding away for hours without much progress.

I got it the best I could for what I had at hand, it needs allot more sanding to remove all the pitting, tooling marks, and scratches. But then again this is actually a user knife, so I may just call it good and blue it, then polish out the blue a lil.

Got my first Becker today BK15 and immediatly took it out of the box and tossed into some stripper to get the coating off. It's still bathing. When it comes out all clean it'll go into some warm apple vinegar for a patina. After that, I make some custom scales and leather sheath for her.. maybe kydex/leather blend. Then a custom fire stick.

I keep meaning to do the same with my Beckers, (sans the scales/sheath) never have the time, but it's on my To-Do-List,

Today I just picked up and held my 7, always feels better than I remember, made me smile,

Just take your time and do it over a few days/weekends, it's well worth doing - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1249828-BK2-repurposed

I just spent the last couple hours sanding and finally got rid of the tooling marks, and brought it to a polish...I didn't go crazy with it since it is a knife I use allot....I pretty much got rid of all the blemishes on the blade with a 120 grit then progressed up to a 2k grit. Its polished but has scratches from sanding still...wasn't worried to much about a prefect mirror finish as it'd get messed up the next time I use it

Come out very nice. If in future you decide to buff the blade on a wheel for a higher polish, be aware that the blade can become extremely hot, to the point of not being able to handle it. This obviously depends on your technique as well.

Yours come out very nice. I did manage to get rid of most of the pitting, I also flattened the spine a great deal.

Yea I can imagine a wheel would heat it up a good bit. Mine was getting warm from just hand sanding. That's what started this venture, I decided to put a 90° spine then decided to strip it, then decided to polish it lol.

Looking at that no need for a higher polisher. Looks spot on. You may get the odd rust spot now, even. From humidity. I wipe mine down with camellia oil before I put it back in the sheath after use.

I use it because it's food safe and won't go rancid if stoked for long periods. Just something to keep in mind it you want to keep it all Purdy.

Yea I wasn't planning on polishing it any further, it's a user blade so would be pointless. I do like how much easier it glides thru material now thou. After use I coat it with mineral oil, I may blue it in the future, and polish that some. I saw a you tube video from preparedmind101 where he did it with a tops bob and it gave it a nice finish while being protected.

It's defiantly like a whole new knife now, I've had this bk2 for over 3 years now and it has seen a ton of use, but it performs much better without the drag from the coating. It also helped out for batoning since i ended up smoothing out the shoulders on the primary bevel some while removing the grind marks and pitting.

Saturated Shadow posted that particular method of carry for larger Becker knives. Works quite fantastically IMO.

Packed my BK3 into my checked bag. Hoping some handsy TSA agent doesn't decide I'm not responsible enough to own such a "dangerous weapon" - along with another small fixed blade and two folders and a multitool.

I fly a lot for work and this is always one of my concerns. That either tsa or some handler along the way doesn't steal my knives or tools from my tool bag. Knock on wood I haven't had any issues within the last 8 years and well over 1k flights.
