What did you rehang today?

It is the only Dayton I own. I am happy it turned out good. It’s obviously not perfect and I have more to do but it can be used now. I have thought about “bluing” and ax head lately and since I had to take the flapper to this one I think I might try it and see what I think.

Yes I agree. I wouldn’t preform the hot blurring. I have seen it done and it turned out okay but as far as “bluing” I think cold bluing give a better look even. I would hate to have done all that work and then ruin a Temper lol.

This is perhaps the laziest rehandle I've done slopped together with no care at all. Sort of a nice change of pace. I wanted a flat cheeked axe to compare to ones I have with high centerlines and so I tossed this ugly beater together.

I started off by taking apart a perfectly good hatchet from Harbor Freight. It cost a total of $8.47 and was made in India. I then hung it on a reject handle that had warped after thinning it out. Despite the watered handle and poor quality head, it's shameful how well it still performs.

Finally an axe! A nice older Craftsman head on a hand selected Lowes (Ames) handle. I'm into this for about $16.

And a sweet axe, great hang! That is great grain alignment .

How long and what's she weigh?

Thanks. That's a great weight and a great craftsman.
Is that a Lowe's handle picked recently from Lowe's? It looks better than the Links I have purchased and used recently from my local hardware stores.
I'm happy with them as long as I can be picky. Good price too, just have to be selective. I'm done gambling with House Handle axe handles. I still recommend their hammer handles.

Good to know thanks for the heads up. I have yet to pull the trigger on buying handles I can't touch.
There is a Lowe's near me and I am going to give them a look when I need a handle or 2 next.:cool:

Selection varies, sometimes nothing is great. Other times I find great ones. I'm in the habit of looking if I'm in or near a Lowe's even if I don't need one. If a great handle is found I'll buy it and save it.

I’ve had good luck picking through the Lowe’s handles also. The grain alignment is hit or miss but most have a nice solid feel with tight grain. I am currently working on making one in to a octagon.
