Could someone who has used straight and curved handles on non-rafting axes chime in?
The figuring in that haft is delicious, Square_peg.
Beautiful handle SquarePeg. I’ve only found one curly handle and didn’t event realize what I had until I stripped the lacquer, sanded and oiled it!Thanks. I don't find much curly hickory but I get one now and then.
That little Mora carver looks pretty handy for pre-shaping wedges. I usually settle for whatever's in my pocket but maybe I'll pull out my Mora. What are you doing with the cranked-neck chisel? Just shaving the wedge width? And that's a fine pair of rasps off to the right.
Me too. It happened to be on my bench at the time so I grabbed it and used it to round the bottom sides of the wedge. That little Mora carver looks pretty handy for pre-shaping wedges. I usually settle for whatever's in my pocket . . .
Yes, trimmed the wedge. I guess I just wanted to give it a try. Took the bulk of the waste off with one stroke and a couple of fine cuts/test to get the width I wanted. What are you doing with the cranked-neck chisel? Just shaving the wedge width?
Thanks, used them to fit the handle into the eye.And that's a fine pair of rasps off to the right.
Looks great! What’s the weight of that head?I rehung this guy last night but it was late and I was tired. Anyway, this guy is on the 32" handle I mentioned on it followed me home. I sharpened it to a very keen edge AFTER hanging due to a tendency of getting sliced by sharp things. The haft has quinton grain orientation so he better not be wrong.Hopefully I'll be able to do an update on 36" vs 32" handles.. Note: the haft isn't twisted like my bare bulb lighting makes it seem.

I thought it looked a bit thinner and might have been a 3 pounder. There’s no weight stamp visible?3-4lbs. I thought about ten times "I should weigh this" but I never did.
Good ol flint edge! Nice axe man! Personally I prefer waiting to sharpen till after it's hung. Especially a db. Not due to safety but convenience. I'll sometimes put a sb in the vice first to file but i always hone after hanging. Thanks again for those little goodies in the mail. The quality of the steel in that axe is fairly obvious, and it's been hardened so far back too.

It’s made by a good buddy, Russell Reece @Cohutta. O1 with walnut handle. He makes awesome knives.Looks great! I don't see anything wrong with it.
And that's a nifty little home made knife. Perfect size for camping and woodcrafting. What's it made of?
