What Did You Sharpen Today?

Dry this time. I always go dry these days with diamond plates at least. The first time I sharpend this knife, I used a Venev resin bonded diamond stone and did use water, but I always get those snail trails when I wipe the blade off. Not sure how to avoid that when I use water to be honest haha. Not a huge deal though if I'm using the knife anyway.
   How do find your Venev Resin Bonded Stone overall. ????

They were my favorite stones to sharpen on until I got the CGSW resin bonded diamond benchstones. Love the feedback on resin bonded stones. The CGSW leaves a much nicer finish at similar micron sizes to the Venev, especially if you're going for a polished edge. For example, the 5 micron CGSW leaves pretty much a perfect mirror to the naked eye after stropping vs the F1200 3/2 micron Venev that will leave stray deep scratches here and there. The 40 micron CGSW is probably my favorite stone since it's pretty much a one and done (unless you have to reprofile) that leaves a toothy but refined edge. The CGSW are a bit easier to get than the Venev these days and are made in USA too. However they're not cheap and I think the Venev are a bit better value since you get a double sided stone with two different grits for around the same price as one CSGW stone.

Thanks for your comprehensive thoughts. It is always better to get reviews from knife users rather than someone on the Web who are possibly getting kick backs. Thanks again. We are always learning. 🤝

Spyderco 15V Shaman. Decided to drop the angle a bit more on the show side to match up the bevels since the first time I sharpened this I was still pretty iffy at freehand, so the bevels weren't exactly what you'd call even 😅 Always trying to get better every time I sharpen something.

Initially used a 400grit diamond plate, but it was taking forever because the blade stock is thick and I dropped the angle a good amount. Switched to a not as well worn 325 grit plate and didn't see much change in speed. So I pulled out my 400 grit vitrified diamond stone and that cut much faster. Not sure what the angle is, but probably in the 10-12dps range (checking with a 13deg angle guide it hit the apex). Stropped with tech diamond tools diamond paste on leather (starting to like that stuff), couple passes on 15um then 8um. Pretty toothy.

Nice job. The diamond tool paste sounds interesting.

Just did up my large pyrite work knife, had the small version. Went through the wood chipper at work SwissHeritageCo SwissHeritageCo hooked me up with this replacement knife. Thanks again 👍.

It's a sweet knife and it's made sweeter by the fact that it doesn't have separate steel liners which ruin the sound of the action (which the newer ones have). Haven't forgotten about your slip btw, will keep you posted!

I was able to sharpen my main kitchen knife with just a King 4000 grit stone. It’s a Misuzu Bunka stainless and carbon steel laminate at 12 dps. The edge is finally how I want it and can be given its bi-weekly sharpening with just one stone.

That is all that counts.   🤠
I have a Tojiro petty that’s headed to the same point. It hasn’t been treated quite as well so it started with some rust removal then a session on a Norton 220 grit water stone. The edge is nice and even now and just needs to progress through 1000 then 4000 grits, but that is for another night.

Don't really bother with them these days, but couldn't resist putting a mirror edge on my new Sebenza 31 in Magnacut 😘. Had previously sharpened it and it needed a touch up, so just went about with polishing.

-Venev F400-F1200
-A couple passes with Stroppy Stuff on leather 4um, 1um
