What Did You Use Your Sebenza For Today ???

bump. I used it to cut some veggies, meat and fruit so far. Got a new sheath as well for the Insingo from a local maker, nothing fancy, slip in pouch with a steel belt clip so I can carry the knife inside my pants with the clip under my belt, more discreet when working and going to meetings then a pouch on the belt.

you're insingo post has some cool pictures marthinus!

I did a lot with my small sebenza, recently it's all I'm carrying and I sometimes switch it with my umnumzaan.

today: sharpened it on a diafold and tried out a new strop. Cut off a lot of arm hair, yeah, sharp. reshaped some candles in the bathroom because they had burned too deep. Peeled an apple with my little girl in the shopping mall, no funny looks whatsoever, having a small playing child around does wonders for your image ;) Cut up a carboard box which contained my just arrived 12000 grit naniwa waterstone. Tested the stone out on the seb  Opened some letters, cut up some cardboard, cut up a home made bread, tasty by the way and some other stuff, can't remember, it was a busy day..
It has just been one of those great 'used it a lot' days :D

Spent a good 3 hours cleaning up the house. Found LOTS of old boxes and ended up filling 80% of a just empted huge recyle bin with cut up cardboard. The small insingo was still paper cutting sharp but was not shaving sharp. Did a nice clean up and touch up on the UF rods and was back to hair popping sharp.

My brother and I decide to go riding today, but todays focus was to clear out the overgrown trails. Spent around 2.5 - 3 hours and only rode about 9.8 miles (This ride usually takes about 1.5 hours for around 12.3ish miles). Spent a good amount of time hacking away at the darn overgrown sticker bushes...have some scratches and cuts on me but I guess its a fair trade for all the limbs I cleaned up :foot:. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the insingo. Most of the limbs around 1/2 - 1 inch limbs were severed in one to two swipes. I also had my Spyderco delica 4 SE with me as a back up. SE edges cut darn good for sticker bushes.

When we finally got home, I was on knife duty and cleaned up my insingo/d4, my brothers Spyderco Leafstorm and his delica4 wave. He hit a rock while clearing the brush so it had a nice role in the edge of his d4. I accidently hit my handle bar while clearing some brush infront of my face. The edge barely rolled on the insingo and came back with no problem .

So not a bad day...had to sharpen my Insingo twice (Only because if it is not at a minimum shaving sharp, its not sharp enough for me ! :D) I love this knife more and more everyday!!!! :)

Cool story!

And I think you've motivated me to buy some UF rods. I've only taken the small Insingo to the Sharpmaker once but the result from about 40 strokes on the fine rods plus a strop on my old belt was astonishing -- I thought this came sharp from the factory!

I can only imagine what a few strokes on the UF rods would do!

(I'm also really excited for my Mnandi to arrive tomorrow. But that's another thread altogether :D)

Well let me close the deal for you.

Yes I know this isn't a Sebenza, but I've been too lazy to take pics of my insingo doing this. This is my results after the Ultra Fine Rods and a Strop loaded with Chromium Oxide.

Ever since I've gotten to this level of sharpness, anything under shaving sharp just WON'T cut it for me....I really think I am OCD about sharpness...:p

Used my large Classic to sharpen my daughters eye liner pencil. Not exactly hard core but it worked well at least :)

Great pics!
I'm trying to decide between a small Sebenza 21 or Insingo. The only CRK I own is a large regular, which I bought new in 2002. How does the Insingo compare with the 21?
Jim

The insingo is a different blade style in the 21 handle format. I like the insingo blade style better. The blade shape for me seems to work better for slicing tasks and is easier to sharpen as well.

Out of my 3 small sebenzas, a regular CGG, 21, and the insingo, I enjoy and find the insingo blade profile the most useful for my daily tasks.

I wish I could compare performance wise with the Sebenza 21 but I do not have one. I can show you the following video where the Insingo does kitchen duty. I did not like warncliff blade shapes at all until this knife. It has been a great kitchen and user knife thus far.

Thanks a lot, Krazichinaman and Marthinus!
I now feel I have to get an Insingo. Now my dilemma is a large or small one. I may also still "need" a small standard 21! Jeez, it never ends! :)

As far as using my Seb goes, I've used it on and off through the years. Lately, nothing special, just some package-opening and slicing up some fruit. I do notice that overall, it cuts better and better as time goes by.

I guess it all depends on the blade length that you can carry. Here in WA, most city limits are around 3.5 inch so I don't even bother and just carry a small. I find that the small meets all my tasks and that a large is just TOO large for me. I have Medium sized hands.

I used my Umnumzaan to cut and sharpen a peice of wood or branch into a design then afterwards i threw my work of art away and kept the real master piece in my pocket :)

Got bored so I decided to take pictures of my small insingo whittling hair. My macro function of my point and shoot wouldn't capture the details of the hair so I used my Mobile phone (Nexus One) with a 10X loupe to capture the photos.

I think I just discovered the newest way to take macro photos since I don't have a DSLR. Not too shabby considering my Nexus One has a 5 MP camera and I had the loupelaying around since I use to work as a Jewelry salesman.

Of course the Insingo functioned perfectly. I did not clean the knife for a few hours since we were looking for other animals, I only rinsed, dried and added some fine machine oil. Later back at home I decided to take the knife apart for the fear of blood in the pivot area that might cause rust. No blood was in the pivot so I just oiled the washers with my special mix and off we went. No sharpening after the weekend and I used her for many other kitchen duties. Damn this is a great knife! I still need a small back in my pocket!

Those are some good shots. Nice hunting. Did you use the insongo for the kill or for the skinning?

I only used it for the kill, started with the skinning, but had to leave it for the workers to finish as we had to leave before the sun went down. I still want to do full skinning and meat processing with the knife and see how it does. I used my small seb initially for this task (wish I took pictures then) and it functioned superbly due to its great size for more detailed work.......damn now I want my small again!!! :( (tear rolling down my cheek)
