What did your SAK do today?

Plucked old man hairs off my ears... again.. but with my new Compact modded phillips instead of corkscrew!

My SAK reminded me why I usually carry a Leatherman.

For most of my adult life I have carried one or another version of SAK, but in the late '90s I discovered pliers based multi-tools and got real happy with them, down to the present. But I still love Vics and often change out for special purposes, like traveling to places where locking blades are not legal carry, lightening the load, or "just because." And there is one I carry every day regardless of whatever else, a Rambler attached to a micro-light.

Today I slipped my (usually) trusty Tinker into pocket. Most days this would have been okay, but not long after I found myself with a situation that called for pliers and also a proper screwdriver for a screw head that neither the large or small Vic drivers could manage. Of course, by this time I was nowhere near a tool kit. Had I been carrying any of my usual full size Leathermen, this frustration would have been avoided. You'd think I would have learned by now, but I seem to need these reminders every once in a while. :o

Finally found a real use for SAK pliers. Was cleaning a shotgun and the metal attachment that holds patches became too tight to get off, even using a cloth for a better grip. Got the Swiss Champ out and with a strong grip of the pliers, it easily unscrewed.

Plucked ear hairs, scissors opened a bag of taquitos when the tear-off didn't work, cut off a loose glob of frayed threads from a co-workers jacket cuff.

Not really one of my SAKs, but a cheap Chinese knock-off I got free with a magazine subscription a whole bunch of years ago. It is obviously the one on top in the picture.

Honestly, I was just about to throw this thing away earlier this week, but decided to keep it in my desk drawer. Glad I did, because I had to do some carving/cutting of candles and didn't really want to get one of my SAK blades all covered in wax. I guess there is something to be said for having a cheap knife around after all.

Compact with pen under hook to initial off training log when there are every damn color of pen/marker at work except for a regular blue or black pen.

Went camping with my boyscouts this weekend my son used my Farmer to whittle a spoon, cut some rope, and I used it to open a can of chili for the hotdogs and cutting strings for some activities.

Used my trusty Fieldmaster to cut some Opihi off some rocks at the beach. Used the small blade to dig the little buggers out of the shell, and ate 'em raw right there.

Opened a gag gift at a Christmas party with my Explorer Plus. The gift was a broken pair of Vice-grips, which - as is custom - I left in a hidden spot at the host's residence.

Used the saw on my SAK Alox Farmer to cut the lowest branches off of our Christmas tree so that it fits into the stand. Now I gotta mess with the lights. I envision at least two trips to the local hardware store.

Friend opened a can of chili at work with the sak i gifted her because of course the can opener she bought a month ago walked off. She texted me that she was going to have to eat out because it was missing, and i had to tactfully remind her about her swiss army knife baby!

Vic Ranger:

Cut a whole bunch of 550 cord today making a couple lanyards (scissors)
Cut open a blister pack (large blade)

SAK Hiker with a modded small blade whittled a "ball in a cage" yesterday morning.

Large blade to try to repair a usb charging port in a phone that was dropped. Not my phone and its broke.
