I was in the army and I got out and got stabbed 6 times. once I learn how to walk again I became a commercial Electrician. I am disable because of the stabbing so I can not work. it finally got to me after all of these years. too many visit to the hospital. oh well thank someone up there for the VA because they are helping me with my health problems. ginrickie1@juno.com

Glad they're helping you Richard, best of luck to you and keep your strength!

I'm a rookie truck driver hauling anything that will fit on a 48' flatbed trailer. Before that for 5 years I built steel storage tanks all around the country(think 3,000,000 gallon steel drums). And for 3 years before that I was a Responder at a correctional facility(think 911 for prison guards) and the shield man on the SRTT. I loved that job. But I got divorced and needed a change. I am also the father of 3 kids when I manage to get home. I hate being a road dog, but it feeds the fam and keeps monks at home full time.

I've been welding since I was 16 (just turned 30), and currently weld high pressure piping for the production, refinement, and processing of dinosaur farts (natural gas :D) in Northeast British Columbia

Though, some days are better than others

I'm a biker pretending I'm an Engineer. :D

No "formal education", Uncle Sam taught me basic electronics in the 70's, most everything else I've learned on my own, working for some of the finest engineers in the industry.

I stumbled into Hard Disk drives 30+ years ago, worked every aspect of the business, design engineering the last 20 or so. Worked or consulted for most of the big names, worked all over Asia (that's where the factories are) usually a month+ at a time. Every notebook hard drive has one of my patents in it.

Nowadays I work for an IC manufacturer who makes chips for disk drives. I'm a "Factory Applications Engineer", no stress no travel, work about 10 miles from home, 4 turns tween here and there, a nice rural 4 lane;). I play in the lab all day either duplicating customer issues or figuring out better ways to do things.

High tech is great, except when it sucks

Medical device sales rep for equipment in the OR. Got into knives years ago after talking to a couple of surgeon about how the different blade shapes help with different tasks.

I'm a rising senior in electrical engineering school. I've been working at a hobby shop selling and servicing hobby grade R/C vehicles for the last five years part time but Monday I start my first summer internship with an electrical switchgear manufacturing company here in SC. It's manufacturing engineering, not electrical engineering so I'm not positive what to expect but I'm excited. They pursued me pretty heavily so I'm assuming they're confident I can do what they want me to do so I reckon I'll be okay. And of course, on the side I like to make custom hand checkered knife scales.

Deuce Bigelow but without the gigolo part. I set up and maintain aquariums. I work on tanks for some famous people. If you have seen the show Tanked you know a little of what I do. Actually I take care of the tanks that those guys set up in the SF bay area. I was going to school to be a marine biologist but found that I make more money owning my own business. I also own a coral website. We grow and sell live corals for aquariums. People online always think my real name is Al. It's not. That's just a play on Algae Blenny. It's a fish.
Cool, would love to check out your site. I have owned a nano reef setup for about a year. I already cant wait to move into a larger place to get a 180g. I personally enjoy the maintenance and struggles that come with the hobby but I know there are many big ballers that needs they tank cleaned. :D

I was a school bus driver for 20+ years. Now I am a housewife, the hours are long, the boss is a brute but I get paid in INFI. Seriously though, I am blessed to be able to stay home and run the house. For many years I wanted to become a mortician. Just kidding about the brute part, I have the best hubby a gal could ever dream of.

I drink a lot, bake more than I drink, and make a few knives here and there.

What do I do for a living? Try to survive :D

There's a commercial on right now for some Alaskan wilderness show and the guy says, "What do I do for a living? I live for a living." :D

I drink a lot, bake more than I drink, and make a few knives here and there.

I'll buy the first LCK (Lora Custom Knife) if it comes with a big batch of cookies :D

I figured most of the people here are ex-military, but what's surprising, to me at least, is the amount of medical professionals.

Great thread!

Retired from the Air Force last year after 20 years (E-8...was a 1Sgt for 6 years before retiring). Worked in IT and was a medic before that. Now I work in IT for a school district and love it.

How else can they afford all the Infi that begs to be bought?
Wish my doctor was a knife nut.

really interesting - i think i have never read all posts in a thread until now :)

i have started as a cnc tech/gunsmith, after that went to business school, then worked in logistics for a european trucking company, now i am self employed - trade, services currently starting a new business with high end interior accessories

i am a car-nut, and love firearms, knives and quality tools and gear in general

I work at a gunshop, handling all gunbroker activities (listings, pictures, descriptions, e-mails), I do a lot of the buying for inventory for the gun department anymore, I sell them, and I work on them.

Figured I'd look into a job at a McDonald's as a fry chef eventually so I could really feel like I'm using my bachelors in economics to my full potential

I'm a freelance writer and I play bass for a bar band.

Also, full-time dad to a 22-month-old with a mind of her own; sometimes work, sometimes play.

Taught martial arts when i was a kid. Graduated as an aeronautical engineer out of school. But, first "real" job was 95B, Army MP, in the national guard.

Life got in the way and for 30 years have been earning a living doing IT stuff, for companies and as a consultant... currently an enterprise architect for a very big company, making me "like just another spoke in a great big wheel."

Still need to figure out what i want to do when i grow up, but i know it has something to do with firearms, probably training other seniors in the basics.

Good thread, got me back on the keyboard... just been lurking for awhile.

I've done a bit of everything. Owned my own computer repair business as a teen, did landscaping, traffic control signal programming, a bit in the Army, worked on an Andalusian farm, did construction, security, retail management, and am currently an EMT, work part time in a Dr.'s office, and am going to nursing school at night.

I stay busy and the bills stay paid, so can't complain too much!
