What do you do for a living?

I feel you. I have over 30 years as Mercedes Benz technician the body is not what it use to be.
Yeah I'm thinking about Factory maintenance or something with less wear and tear on the body and dealing with less people who know what's wrong with their car because the interweb told them or a friend and it's not expensive.
But they are helping me out by bringing it to me to fix it 😡. I love people.😂

Impressive as hell! You should be our Vice President - our current one sure didn't pass the Kali Bar Exam on the 1st try. 😂 AFAIK the only three day exam in the country, and that third day damn near wiped me out mentally. GULC '94 here, magna cum. Spent a summer at Berzerkeley in 1981 while interning at PG&E - don't know how the hell you made it four full years there!

Amen. Got my MS there in 1989.

Never. Going. Back.

I’m lucky I don’t have to deal with people just their complaints. my favorite one from yesterday “I have my heater set at 72 and the air coming out it the vents is hotter than that” yep it’s 54 deg outside and trying to heat your car up.
some days I spend hour programing control units so they will play nice update one for some problem and then 3 others don’t want to work right.

😂I feel you sometimes things just don't go the way you want them to but over the years I've found the people who aren't supposed to have "money" are the most decent and quickest to pay and the some of the one's who have it supposedly can be head wreckers.
Anyways there all small things in the big scheme of things compared to some people's problems.

I'm almost 57 and still in the process of finding a "career."
Well, I turned 61 today and I'm still trying to figure out what my second career is going to be... I've been an electrical engineer (BSEE) in the aerospace industry for over 37 years which has taken me all over the US; Texas, California, New Mexico, Maryland and Missouri. I love my job and my engineering concentration (Electrophysics) and I don't see me leaving for 3-4 years if not longer, unless I find that perfect second career. I can't imagine retiring and "relaxing" as I have had a paycheck of some sort since the age of 12 (agricultural age exemption).

I'm considering becoming a petro millionaire. All I need to do is somehow acquire a bunch of producing oil wells and I'm golden!

I have found my calling.

Unfortunately, maintaining the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed requires that I leave the house a few nights each week. A local hospital pays the bills, and I perform a variety of duties behind a badge that reads Level III Respiratory Therapist.

I'll be 70 next month. I've been in the water and sewer utility business on one level or another since 1975. Worked for municipalities, county governments, State DNR and the private sector all at one time or another. Quit the highest paying most fun job I ever had in 1988 to strike out on my own. Wound up owning several private water/sewer utility companies, contract operated publicly and privately owned systems, sold out (mostly) in 1999 Went back at it in 2002 as a manager rather than owner. Started another for profit firm and a not for profit. The for profit firm was ultimately acquired by the not for profit which is doing great in the utility business. Closing on the sale of the last utility I own in January 0f 2023 and will then be well and truly fully retired.

Then you'll be like a fish out of water. 🤣

Congrats on your pending retirement.

Ive had two careers running concurrently most of my life. Was a tradesmen by day. Electrical, mechanical, plumbing and construction are all fields Ive worked in my entire adult life. At the sametime I bartended for 25 years. Growing up in a drunk Irish-American family I learned the value of hard work and a place to unwind after. Ive long since hung up my linesmen dykes and cocktail shaker, I am now the Operations Manager of a large regional shopping center.

TLDR: I work at the mall.
