As in work and how to you choose your knife due to your job. Like me I'm a Union Ironworker and depending on what I'm doing is how I choose knife. If I'm welding or cutting I will take a fixed blade due to cutting welding lead and torch runber. If I'm rigging iron I'll carry a folder traditional or new cause I'll be cutting a lot of rope. If I'm connecting iron or bolting up iron I actually carry both fixed and folders. Share yours and pictures of your work would be cool to.

I'm a truck driver. I have a slip joint for cutting things like plastic binding straps, door seals (seals that "prevent" someone from opening the cargo doors. In reality, the plastic ones only tell you someone got in) saran wrap, hose, rope, food prep, and other light use.
I keep a couple Cold Steel machetes in the truck to break down pallets that are left in the truck.

I generally carry folders most of the time for work and play. If I am collecting soil samples, I use my Condor Bushlore (fixed blade) for cutting, scraping, and sometimes digging this material. I used to use a Schrade 250T for this (110 clone). Needless to say, I destroyed the cutting edge.

I keep a large CRKT folding Razel in my field bag for occasional scraping and light prying.

Great shots Keith:thumbup: I'm scared to death of heights so nothing could get me up there:eek::eek::D

At my time of life I'd like to stop working:D:cool: The knives I choose may depend on whether I'm fixing things about the home, planting and harvesting fruit&veg, hiking in the forest, birdwatching at the coast or field, walking about the city or just lolling about enjoying myself. I'll confess, I do use a Modern for dirty tasks or if I'm up a tree (not too high mind...) for convenience, but I don't ENJOY using them. With Traditionals it's all so different, whatever the task I enjoy using them and feel happy afterwards, knife in pocket equals spirits raised. Pairing a fixed Traditional with a Traditional pocket-knife is great for a day out or even at work as my work-bag has a small fixed on board, you never know...;)

Thanks, Will

great stuff guys i love what i do aand love to see how other make a living and use their knives

Might imagine a machete could be a useful tool for repelling uninvited boarders too....:D:D:cool:

I'm a construction Boilermaker and novice knife maker work is a great place to field test new designs and heat treat recipes. My current carry is 4" drop point fixed blade with g-10 handle epoxied on with micarta pins, steel is out of cpm m4 @ 63 rc, I made an insert so it fits in a sheath in my bolt bag along with my pliers, it cuts alot of rope and fiberglass gasket martial, and tie wraps and tape, the odd batoning through welding cable, the only chipping I got was when batoning through some 4" nylon choker's and there was sand on the backer board and using the point as a screw driver.

Since I earn my living making these things, I don't really need to carry one. There is always some cutting instrument nearby. On rare occasions when I do leave my shop, I may carry one of the three knives I have had in use for the past 40 years.
I do however use my ever growing slipjoint collection. I bring out a different display case every few days. When I take breaks, I admire, and maybe fondle some of the pieces. This also lets me oil and maintain each one in pristine condition. Some may not think of this as "using" a knife, but it is!!! I use them to bring me joy and inspiration, what more can you ask for?

I work out of Sudbury Ontario Local 128, I used to carry a big blade like you but over the last couple of years the plants where I have been working are starting to out law ALL knives and want every one to use industrial scissors thats why I have it sort of concealed in my bolt bag, and every one caries folders so they can keep them out of sight. Its so ridiculous like a knife is the most dangerous tool we use on the job????

oh i know they gave us safety no cut box cutters i threw the whole box in the slag pit lmao

I work in a pharmaceutical warehouse, where I drive an order picker, doing a whole lot of bending and lifting. We all carry razor knives for opening boxes, but I always carry a multi-blade traditional with a sheepfoot and either a clip or spear blades. The sheepfoot comes in handy for real thick cardboard which is a pain to cut with a short razor knife, and the clip or spear is for my lunches. Carried this one today in 154CM . . . stainless is a big plus, as it's sweaty work.

I work in an office. Usually carry a folder with me. Especially around this time of year we get a lot of boxes shipped to us and I need something quick and easy to get them open with. Here's the one I had in my pocket today.

These days I'm a staff Materials & Process engineer working in a cube farm at a Fortune 500 aerospace engineering company. The company places tight size restrictions on pocket knives, so I usually carry a Case Tiny Trapper.

There is a blade length policy of 2.5" or less on any folding pocket knives. I like my good job though. Those of you that can carry a simple pocketknife at work, be thankful.

Heh. YOU should be thankful. My limit is a 2" blade and a 4 1/2" total length when open.

I am a Traffic Engineer working for the New Mexico DOT so my EDC choice is something small and non-threatening. For me that is my GEC Model 83 Lockback.

I'm a welding inspector/CMT inspector, so my traditional folder is used to cut up apples and oranges while I kick back and watch you guys bust your butts out there. :D

I'm a high school teacher. We are not allowed to carry a knife at all. I call my stubby Razel a chisel.:)
