What do you guys do? What traditional knives do you use when doing it?

Heh. YOU should be thankful. My limit is a 2" blade and a 4 1/2" total length when open.

There was a member here that would carry the Federal guidelines book with him into work, with the 2.5" blade rule highlighted and tabbed. He worked for the FCC, I believe. The member might have passed away, I forget what his username was. We disagreed on somethings but he was a good dude.

I work in Inventory Control for a large manufacturer of beverage equipment. We are required to use a company provided utility knife with a blade that automatically retracts after each cut. I do carry a pocket knife everyday at work but it's just for peace of mind. I've already gotten my verbal warning for using my own knife on the premises so I won't be doing that again. As much as I hate to admit it, I've learned to be content just having a knife in my pocket.

I'm Semiretired but I was in the trades for nearly 40 years so I pretty much carried what ever I wanted. The Schrade 51OT lockback was my go to work knife for many years as an industrial millwright/fabricator/mechanic. This was accompanied by a Schrade 807UH for most jobs. Sorry no pics most of my old pictures were destroyed during Katrina. :(

I'm a welding inspector/CMT inspector, so my traditional folder is used to cut up apples and oranges while I kick back and watch you guys bust your butts out there. :D

i ran a weld gang for awhile i always made sure the inspectors had snacks and coffee :)

I work at a desk job with no work-related need for a cutting implement of any kind. I carry a small Victorinox SAK just for convenience. My job changed over the past couple of years. I used to do more things that needed tools but these days I'm just a desk jockey.

I have a desk job as well, so my knife generally only comes out for opening packages, trimming stray threads, or other miscellaneous small tasks.

I work in an office environment in a small Silicon Valley start-up. We're too small to have many rules, let alone rules regarding what size knife to have. I always have a SAK Classic (mainly for the scissors) and a SAK Pioneer. I also carry some traditional EDC, which I change up daily. It can be anything from a Northwoods Fremont or a Michigan Jack to a GEC #63 Mako or a GEC #48 trapper or a stockman or the 2015 Forum knife, whatever I'm in the mood for that day gets carried. I have a large collection to choose from. Truth be told, its the SAKs that get used. The" fancy" knives are just there for comfort............however you never know when you might need 'em for some important task.

I am a retired ARNG Soldier and a current salesman of building materials. I've always been able to carry any kind of knife I wanted to use, both in my professions and due to living in rural eastern NC. I was off deer hunting today, so I wore my Buck 110 Folding Hunter on my belt today, even while eating a late lunch at the K&W Cafeteria - not a word was said nor a strange glance received. My normal EDC for work is a 3-3/8" to 3-7/8 Stockman (the Sheepfoot is very handy for cutting Drywall, etc.) I also like Jackknives of the same OAL and carry them some days as well. OH

Retired RCMP Officer. Contrary to most of the front line who carried tactical knives, I carried a SAK that my wife game me the day I was sworn in, as well as a Victorinox multi tool she gave me when I reached the 10 yr mark. Both saw lots of use.

Nowadays I carry a traditional folder around town and a BRKT Bravo 1.25 when out on the land.

I am an auto mechanic. My job has many cutting tasks each day. Usually the tasks are opening packages that parts come in. The knife that is in my pocket when I leave home gets switched out when I get to work. I put the rotation knife in the top drawer of my tool box and pocket the Old Timer 80T. I do on occasion use the rotation knife for something but the work gets done with the Old Timer.

I'm an office guy, but it doesn't stop me from breaking out my Case CV Sowbelly and slicing up an apple or an orange lol.

I'm a high school teacher. We are not allowed to carry a knife at all. I call my stubby Razel a chisel.:)

Hey, tpro;

I am a high school teacher, too. I don't need much steel teaching English and History, so I carry my SAK in my pocket. I find a use for it every day.

I'm an HVAC tech. I used to do mostly commercial/industrial. I came to work for my dad about 8yrs ago so now it's mostly residential/light commercial but I'm trying to remedy that. I miss working on the fun stuff. Anyway, this is what my usual edc looks like minus a LM Surge on my belt.

I'm a retired machinist, so I try not to get involved in anything too strenuous. Fishing and hanging out with my better half in interesting places takes up a lot of my time.

I figure that I don't really actually need much knife, so a peanut size knife does it nicely for me and does not take up much pocket space. If I need much more knife, then I must be doing something wrong and it's time to go take a nap and think about things.:D

But with our move to texas this past month, and moving into a new-to-us house, there's been a lot to do. So a small Leatherman tool has been in my pocket a lot, taking turns with a SAK that has a phillips screw driver on it. As things settle down, I hope to be back to a semi-lazy self indulgent life style again.

I am a retired design engineer and carried an old Ulster Whittler for 40 years. I live outside of any town or city and can carry what ever I want and that is a Northfield 73 every day unless I have to go into a city that may have a length restriction.

I am a banker. Very few reasons to carry knives in my suit, but I usually do! Peace of mind and all that....

I am a pipefitter I carry my Freemont jack everyday and my Leatherman wave is always on my belt

Excellent thread! It's instructing to know who makes what!
I'm retired and my knives are used for daily chores, food prep, etc. Except for gardening tasks when I go to my daughter's place, any knife would do the job. Though I'm not a collector in mind, I'm a a collector de facto!
When I worked on locations, I used a big SAK for cutting and stripping cables on emergency soldering and my Laguiole at table. Then came (after a job in Florida) the first Leatherman and Gerber, they are now in the motorcycles tool kits. I always keep a micra (wonderful scissors), that is, when my grand son does not hijack it!
