I'm retired now so I don't "do" anything professionally. When I worked for the U.S. Department of Defense (military and civilian) my positions almost always involved office, warehouse and yard work. As a clerk then manager, management analyst and inspector I needed a knife I could use anywhere without upsetting those who are afraid of knives. My go to for that was my Uncle Henry 897uh stockman. It was great for cutting boxes and lines and opening envelopes, etc. That lasted for about 20 years. Then I started teaching for DoD all over the U.S. and in Germany, Japan and South Korea. With all the travel, my knife was in my suitcase until I got to my worksite. I needed something that would be acceptable almost anywhere - so it was some kind of red SAK. Worked well for opening boxes of books and supplies when I arrived on site. Also took care of any quick equipment repair or setup needed.
Now in retirement, I collect, carry and use just about any traditional for the few tasks I really need a knife for. Mostly home duties, but also have one on me while hiking which I do frequently.
One other occupational use, I was an EMT as a second job for a few years. Best knife for that work was something you could deploy quick and put away. Nuff said.
