What do you guys do? What traditional knives do you use when doing it?

I'm retired now so I don't "do" anything professionally. When I worked for the U.S. Department of Defense (military and civilian) my positions almost always involved office, warehouse and yard work. As a clerk then manager, management analyst and inspector I needed a knife I could use anywhere without upsetting those who are afraid of knives. My go to for that was my Uncle Henry 897uh stockman. It was great for cutting boxes and lines and opening envelopes, etc. That lasted for about 20 years. Then I started teaching for DoD all over the U.S. and in Germany, Japan and South Korea. With all the travel, my knife was in my suitcase until I got to my worksite. I needed something that would be acceptable almost anywhere - so it was some kind of red SAK. Worked well for opening boxes of books and supplies when I arrived on site. Also took care of any quick equipment repair or setup needed.

Now in retirement, I collect, carry and use just about any traditional for the few tasks I really need a knife for. Mostly home duties, but also have one on me while hiking which I do frequently.

One other occupational use, I was an EMT as a second job for a few years. Best knife for that work was something you could deploy quick and put away. Nuff said.

I have worked in a hospital environment for the past 11 or so years and while we have rules regarding knives I typically disregard them. I work in cancer clinical trials and generally carry one slipjoint in my pants pocket and another in my scrub shirt pocket to fiddle with at a computer.

Other than opening boxes that get delivered daily I really have no use for a knife at work but it makes me happy.

I'm an electrical engineer. As I spend most of the working hours in the office, my peanut can handle most of the tasks (but I got a Buck 303 a few days ago, that I want to try for EDC). My Case Sodbuster Jr. sometimes helps to prepare lunch.
Regards, Daniel

I'm a mechanical engineer working in a power plant environment on steam and gas turbines with all the support stuff. We have restrictions on using knives in the field, so the traditionals I carry generally get used on lunch stuff like apples. Outside of work, they get used on all kinds of stuff as I work on cars, household stuff, appliances, guitar amps, hunting, reloading..... all kinds of stuff.

I'm the guy that puts the first mile on YOUR new car. :o I never leave home without my SAK classic.

I work retail, so I do a lot of light cutting here and there. Straps, cardboard, tape, paper, plastic, etc.

Given the different tasks, I usually carry 2-3 blades at one time - a modern folder, a slipjoint, and usually a fixed blade. I'll have a wharncliffe / sheepsfoot blade, a drop/bowie/spear blade, and another one just for giggles.
