What do you guys do? What traditional knives do you use when doing it?

I'm a rail conductor in TN so very few restrictions on what I carry. Typically small fixed blade Runt an edc and a case whaler . I cut a lot of zip ties pry out rubber gaskets etc .

Nice Dave, love the way the SVORD came out, how goes the new job?

Thanks Ted.

New jobs OK. I can't do nearly as much personal work and I don't do my own programming except simple stuff at the G-code level.

So those are big minuses. But I got more money and the stess levels are way less.

I'm 60 now and I wanna semi-retire myself in two years. Another plus in my new gig is that they let a few guys work 2-3 days a week.

I can't remember the last time I used a knife while "doing it". When I practiced law, I made do with a Micra, but I lost a couple to the Deputies' Benevolent Fund whenever I forgot to take one out of my pocket before going to the courthouse.

In retirement, I drive a school bus and knives are of course verboten. Still, the kids leave a lot of pencils on the bus, mostly with broken points. Then a day or two later they are asking to borrow a pencil. The canny operator will have something in his pocket with which to sharpen a few pencils, out of sight of the kids, of course. A higonokami doesn't look much like a knife, but it will sharpen a pencil or slice an apple

I'm retired Air Force, and currently on the staff at a local funeral home. Working towards being licensed as a funeral director and embalmer next year.

While in the AF, I carried a variety of traditional blades. If I was deployed or in the field for an exercise, I usually carried a large knife like the Buck 307 big stockman or the Bucklite. At the point in my career when I was mostly attending meetings and luncheons, a medium stockman (Buck, Case, Western, Old Timer) would accompany me.

At the funeral home, I carry a Case peanut or a small stockman. Either comes in handy for cardboard, random threads, mail and the like, plus it doesn't take much room in the suit pocket.

Off duty, I'll carry a large stockman (partial to the Old Timer 8OT and the Buck 301 these days), and sometimes a Case CV peanut slips in too.

In the army as a mechanic I carried a case scout for a few years then switched to a leatherman wave. Now I work with farm equipment and usually carry a sak cadet or times when setting up equipment I go back to the leatherman.

I'm a maintenance mechanic at a paper mill. I carry a case trapper cv and a case sod buster Jr. Cv.

For many years I owned a nursery (shrubs and trees). I carried a SAK and a Kershaw Leek. Rarely a day went by that I didn't use a knife for something. Now I'm a driving instructor so I don't "need" a knife but I still rotate a Spydie and an Ontario RAT.

Let's keep it traditional, please. Spydies, Leeks and Rats are not traditional.

I am in public school administration, so I only carry a small slip joint at work. The toughest task it will get asked to do it is opening a box or some other simple task. Here is one of my carries, a GEC 22:

Welp, I drive School Bus and I'm a Real Estate Agent. I never leave the house without two knives. One is the SAK Manager on my key chain and the other is full sized pocket knife for those bigger tasks and (mostly) to give me something to admire in my quieter moments. My kids and clients alike seem to always expect me to fix everything for them and it so my EDC gear sees a lot of action. My favorite slipjoint for Real Estate work is my Presidential, a slim slicer for more elegant attire.

I work in federal law enforcement, one of the alphabet soup kids but not one where I'm on-duty 24/7. Limited jurisdiction. I carry a Schrade 8 OT and a Lanny's clip made by John Lloyd. I've carried some non-traditionals over the years but sometimes they are more trouble than they are worth. I don't care if I get tape on the OT and I don't cut my hands to pieces getting it off if I do. Plus no one makes weird assumptions about the traditional knives.

I work as manager of a greenhouse supply company. Office work mostly and some field consulting in greenhouses. I carry all sorts of traditional folders, however lately its been my Buck Custom 501 lock back and my Old Timer 12OT. No pics but we all know what they look like. Very interesting topic and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm a Registered Nurse (acute surgical and occasionally surgical trauma). I carry only one of my knives at work; my SAK Waiter, purely because its what lives on my keyring. There are no rules forbidding me from carrying any other traditional but I don't because if I used it at work I feel I'd need to sterilize it, which is easier to do to the SAK. I wouldn't normally carry any knife as part of the job but having that SAK in my pocket on my keys has saved the lives of three patients over the past few years.
We also have a family farm so when I'm working on there whatever traditional I've popped in my pocket that day will generally get a lot of use.

I work in the livestock industry. I deal mostly with beef cattle and equine. On the weekends I'm in the Army. Zero restrictions on knife carry.

Case 6347 stockman. Bought it at a local ranch supply store and it has worked well enough ever since that I'm on my second one.

I'm a capital markets consultant. I help CEO's communicate their Company's financial and operational strategy. My day consists of writing speeches and scripts for CEO's and creating messaging that articulates their direction forward. A lot of my cutting during the day actually involves lunch.

Hey gone bad! I'm a union millwright out of NE NJ, I actually just got off a job with some iron workers from Chicago/Joliet area. Personally if I'm gonna be rigging I'll carry a modern serrated hawkbill of some sort, but my constant companion for most everything else is my Smith and Sons Mudbug. I love the Sodbuster pattern, and having a lock on one just makes me even happier

Right on urban redneck I'm on my way to Kentucky tonight leave in a few hours to work with some millwrights composition crew at a Toyota plant.im taking my sow belly and nf 25 speartip
