what do you guys do

I'm in charge of sales and marketing for an interpretation and translation company. We speak 200 languages, and are open 365 days a year 24 hours a day. Most of our interpretation is done by phone.

You gents have some interesting and varied sources of employment. Glad to see so many people doing something they really enjoy.

I am a criminologist. I teach, study, write, and research at a large Ontario university. Should be finishing up my doctorate soon. Not a day goes by where I fail to think about how lucky I am to have had the opportunity to pursue a career that I love. In fact, save for when I'm off hiking or canoeing somewhere, it's pretty much impossible for me to distinguish between "work time" and "my time". Except perhaps when I'm grading papers.

All the best,

I'm a State Correctional Officer here NJ. I have been doing it for about 6 years and I plan to retire as a CO unless something else comes along. You can't beat the benefits, the pension for retirement, or the pay. Yeah it can be tough sometimes, but someone has to do.

Coincidentally, I was thinking about Latin in High School, today. When I was in High School (just before electricity), we had to take French and either German or Latin. I thought, what the hell would I do with Latin, so I took German, thinking at the very least, I could watch the old WWII movies and understand what was being said.

Well, I never watched that many movies and my German wasn't good enough, anyway. Fast forward to present day - what am I doing but learning wild plants and their binomials (LATIN NAMES!).

I go to college full time, working on two BA's, one in Criminal Justice and one in Psychology. I also work in the local gun shop.

It would be tough to stereotype this group!

MCKROB does what I really wanted to do, geology is my real love in life. But I also wanted a stable family life, and I knew that if I did the geology-related work that interested me, I would never be home, so I ended up getting my PhD in chemistry instead.

Now I manage a plant that recycles solvent and treats hazardous wastewater. Someone has to deal with the offals of industrial society.

That is exactly what I mean by keeping your options open.

Possibly you could go to the person that decides about the expulsion, lay your cards on the table, admit you screwed up and that you sincerely want to get your s**t together.

I think this would be better than sitting back and letting fate decide for you. It's all about being proactive.

If you're stuck in the woods, you don't wait to see if a fire will start by itself, do you? Same thing.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

I work in a motorcycle shop. In my previous life, I was a graphics/multimedia/web designer, a government proposal manager, and a consultant. Now I just mess with bikes and talk to people about bikes all day long. I started out in sales, then moved to service writer, then was service manager for a number of years, and now I'm back to sales.

graphic artist/creative manager of advertising and marketing.

I'm a go-between between internal project managers and external EPC companies for a major pipeline/power company. I make sure the drawings get done right, signed in a reasonable amount of time, and sent to the people that need to see them to get things built.

Basically, it's like herding cats, but without all the allergens.

In my spare time I fool around with 3D modelling software, and lament the fact that going to school to get a diploma to do that for a living would mean losing out on 2 years of earnings.

My future plans include buying a sailboat and using it extensively. Anyone got a pier I can tie up to? :D
