What do you REALLY carry every day?

OK right now I am carrying a Spyderoco Native, Endura 4, Police, Military, Sog flash 2, a Sig 229 357 sig with four mags (48 rnds), a doan tool, 2 light my fire ferro rods,a DMT dia-fold fine/ultra fine sharpener, and a whole bunch of other crap. I know I need to empty my pockets.

Wow- isn't a full-size 1911 hard to conceal?

surprisingly not. the slim profile, imo, makes it easy to conceal. much easier for me to conceal a full size 1911 than a glock 26. the fat grip just prints too much for me.

i often carry a full size w/light iwb. two spare mags, folder, small fixed, pocked flashlight, two wallets (one neutered), keys.

the only thing i change is the gun. sometimes a kahr p40, w/ two mags.

Thats what I REALLY carry on my person everyday. Once in a while I might even throw in a buck slipjoint into my pockets. It isnt all that heavy and while I probably dont need 3 knives I carry them anyways.

Jeez ziptrickhead. You're 19 and you go to school in NYC, and you carry all that

Be careful around the local police.

It must be past my bedtime. What did you mean by "unass"?

Get my ass out of the car and move it somewhere else. Sorry, left over military jargon.

No doubt. I'd rather IWB a 1911 or Hi Power than some of the thick guns I run in a shoulder rig.

I carry my Kershaw Needs Work, a SOG Micron on my keys, an Inova Microlight (also on my keys) and that's about it. I probably travel light because I can access anything else I might need either at work or at home, easily enough.

I see a lot of pics and talk about guys that claim to carry four knives, two guns, and three flashlights every day but I just don't buy it.

Wait till you start meeting people in person and see what they pull out of their pockets, waistbands, socks, sleeves ...

Right Pocket: Keys with SAK Classic/Signature. Clipped to the pocket is a fullsize Skirmish.

Left Pocket: Lighter, chapstick (helpful w/ minor burns) Clipped to the pocket is a Delica.

Rear Pocket: Billfold w/ cash/cards, staomps straight pins and bandaids.

Belt: Right side, Full size Govt Model 1911 carried IWB in a premium KyTac BraveHeart.

Left side, one full reload, Fenix P2D flashlight and a Leatherman PST-II.

Cell phone is in shirt pocket, usually.

Watch on wrist.

This has been answered well. Let me just add that a 1911 has a single stack magazine, meaning all the rounds are verticle and the magazine is the width of the ammo.

Most other pistols have double stack magazines, meaning the rounds rest side-by-side in the magazine in a zig-zag pattern. This greatly increases the capacity AND the width of these magazines.

The width of the magazine determines the width of the pistol, and as has been pointed out, width is much harder to conceal than length of barrel.

Lots of folks have already answered that question well, but the 1911 is quite easy to conceal. In this summer heat, I often wear only a t-shirt and conceal it just fine. Very few people would be observant enough to notice a bulge if there was one, anyway. There is little to no printing even on my thin-ish frame (unless bending far over or something).

Picking a quality gun belt (not some crappy walmart belt) and a quality holster make all the difference. The holster is a CompTac C-TAC, which is a tuckable IWB rig with adjustable cant/tension. The belt is a Wilderness Tactical belt (awesome). Quality is excellent on both.

Better pic of gun and rig:

Previous EDC was a Glock 33, in .357 sig. Great gun and caliber, but not that much easier to conceal than the 1911.

Ashtxsniper- You've got good taste! Good pistol, good caliber. .357 Sig is quite under-rated.

The flashlights and knives I carry vary but I always have at least two lights and one knife.

Well I use to go to high school in Brooklyn. Going to college now in Long Island. Back in high school it was just a CRKT m16-13 in the back pocket since I didnt have anything else.

I mean either way, I still carry my EDC when im back home and around the city. I make sure everything is concealed and I dont go around causing trouble, giving cops a reason to search me. The only time I was searched by the cops was the single time that they picked me out to do a random bag search on the subway. And still, its not like they checked my person, just took a quick glance into my bag and let me go.

I'm experimenting with carrying lightweight so the only things guaranteed to be on my person is my McLux PD-S Mizer, a knife (usually my favorite, the Caly3), a cell phone and my wallet. Lately, a SAK or some form of multitool is also with me.

Although my loads get lighter during these Alabama summers it is not unusual for me to roll into work packing 2 multi-tools, 2 knives, and 2 flashlights with the intent to test out 1 of each. I try to stay in the 2/2/2 range because it's nice to have a back-up of my essential items.

Here's what I've carried for at least a week this past month.

Nothing too crazy but once winter rolls around all the above goes away and I get into the extremes with 4 knives, 1 gun+1 mag, 3-4 full-size flashlights, 2-3 multi-tools, lighters, etc. I need something to fill the big coat I wear.

Unless they are Police or military, why would you pack so much junk around every day?
Testing and evaluation of certain items that I plan to use long-term but don't want to carry by themselves in case they do not meet my needs. Also, I tend to spend a lot of time around other people and like to be prepared with a lent light/tool for them. That, and it's just really fun to walk around like Inspector Gadget sometimes.

So, what do you real people carry everyday?
Non-internet knife/tool/light/EDC hobbyists seem to carry pretty similar items. Over the past few years I have been observing what people EDC and it seems like the most common "geardo" items are:
+Vic classic or knockoff
+Photon or other small keychain LED knockoff
+Folding utility knife

Seems like a step down at each level of tools; few carry a hand-held flashlight, more carry a multi-tool, and most carry at least a folding knife of some kind.

I carry a benchmade 5500 Mel Pardue auto, a keltec 3at ,ag russell 2 in pen knife, surefire 6p,billfold with badge ,often a neck knife ,on duty add cuffs a Kimber cdp, extra mag cell phone clip on badge and to support all this a wilson combat belt and holster, if going to the woods a large chopper from my collection currently playing with a Crowell and Barker by Browning, keys with photon lite and watch, all of it feels like a ton by end of day but seems to be needed!

When I'm not working the load is pretty light, Filson Security Wallet, Katana cell phone, Fisher bullit pen, SAK Spartan, SAK money clip, keys w/ Fenix P1, spare change, Dakota packpacker 'biner watch, small Sebenza or ti/zdp mini Cyclone, clip on shades, bandanas, datebook.

Working I change the wallet to a larger Filson to carry more cards and business cards, swap the knife to a large Sebenza in a belt sheath, add a Victorinox multi tool and a Inova T3 (both in sheathes).
