What does your forum handle mean?

I got stuck with Natethegrate in school, by others who thought that Nate(short for Nathan, short for Nathanial) was more like a name than a nickname, and that I needed a real nickname.

I figured that as I seem to have some sort of knowitall complex switching the words to form a third person perspective would be appropriate.

I think THEGRATENATE resounds better than Natethegrate

Oh and I changed the spelling of great to match the spelling of my own name, kindof like the world revolving around me, some people have a hard time wrapping their heads around the fact that things should be altered to better suit my whims.

Megalomaniac just seemed to impersonal for my tastes.

This time, Morimotom was the Necromancer.

OldPhysics = exactly what you think! I am definitely no longer young, or even middle-aged. And I've been a physicist all my life.

My actual nicknames are either far too obscure or far too rude to use!

One of my sisters gets her PhD in Physics in... 5 weeks? Stamford. :D Waaaay smarter than ME. :o ...But I'm proud of her! :D

mfaster7 = michael foster --> mfoster--> mfaster
people think I've misspelled my last name but I haven't

What sort of physicist ...? I'm one of the geo- variety .....

My handle, just an unimaginative combination of my abbreviated first and last names... easy to remember...

and the avatar... a "TUMI" -a bronze ceremonial knife used in human and animal sacrifice by the Sican and Inca peoples of Peru from roughly 750 A.D. to 1500 A.D.

and the polar bear... well I spent almost ten years working in the Canadian Arctic and Greenland... I feel a certain "connection" to the polar bear as it was always my number one concern whilst working in the field; it is not the cute and cuddly animal you see on the coca-cola ads...!

Oh, are these names supposed to mean sumfin?

A tea-bagging mishap left my college GF with two black eyes,.. she gave me the name. Plus i was/am big into shotguns and the shot (lead balls) got me thinking,.. and in the movie "The Jerk" there was the character "Ironballs McGinty" and that name always cracked me up as a kid... (you kick him in the groin and break your foot)
So there you go...

My boys are 6 and 9 years old. When they were a little younger, they would try to weasle out of my grasp by going completely limp. I called this the "gravitynoodle" and began using it as a screenname.

It dawned on me that it sounded like erectile dysfunction , so I changed it to Powernoodle.

Now you know.

cheers

My handle means "war club" in whatever language the Aztecs or Mexica spoke (Nahuatl, I think?). If you google maquahuitl, you can read all about it. It looks kinda like a cricket bat lined with obsidian blades. I chose it for no other reason than it was the first word that popped to mind.

Stanford? Then I'm proud of her, too. An excellent place. One of my closest friends got his PhD in EE from Stanford (working on free-electron lasers).

Nothing exotic. I began as a combination of Laser Physicist and Optical Engineer (MS in Engineering Physics involving these two disciplines), then continued on as a Solid State Physicist with a minor in Quantum Mechanics.

BTW, it sounds like your variety is a fun and interesting one. These days, I spend no time in the lab -- just in the office. There are weeks (OK, months) when I'd 'kill' to get some time in the field or in a lab...

ill repost mine.

morimotom=last name, first initial. mark morimoto. i have a wild imagination.

It's a great career if you like the outdoors and like to travel, I've spent the last 10 of 14 years living in a tent all over the world, met a girl whilst on a job in Peru a couple of years ago and have almost settled here in the central highlands of Peru. Presently I'm involved in gold exploration using gravity, induced polarisation, resistivity, electromagnetics, and magnetics; currently stuck at a desk running 2D/3D induced polarisation/resistivity inversion models...

My funniest travelling experience was trying to explain the term Damn the Man to someone with a partial grasp of English. It's kind of my catch phrase similiar to "I blame Porkerson", ya know? I say it all the time.

So we'd hired a tour guide to take us to the Mayan ruins in Guatemala. For whatever reason I waited to fill up the SUV until after we crossed the border from Belize. The gas in Belize was $6/gal, which seemed steep til we got hit for $8/gal in Guatemala. So of course I was cursing the perverbial "Man", and my guide in the back seat was like 'what the hell are you talking about?'. It took about a half an hour till he got it. The funniest was when he started using it himself later in the day. But he kept saying "that damn man". I was proud to give some of our culture back in exchange for thiers. :D

My first name, cause i think the internet can be so anonymous, its nice to know the person's name when you chat on the net,and Kauai is the beautifull

Logged on to BF 2 years ago to for some info, thought I would not use it that much so I just put one in. I go by Kenny and was 44.

If I had known I would like this place so much I might have put more effort in it.

I was right. It has been interesting! Always assuming your girl likes the outdoors as much as you do.

Don't worry, they can't force you to run models forever. You'll be back in the field eventually. I assume the induced polarisation involves ground penetrating radar -- looking for changes in the scattering matrix induced by the thread-like nature of gold deposits (thereby creating preferential directions for induced currents)?

Have never been to Peru. Been to ABC (Argentina, Brazil, Chile) of course...but never Peru. Enjoy!

Ha!!!! You are my new hero!

Like others have said, I picked a name to log on, read, and learn. Never really expected to post.
bwcaq= Boundary Waters Canoe Area/Quetico
I'm into wilderness canoe camping...

I'm a podiatric surgeon and I love Busse knives. I am from the north and moved dowm south a few years ago. I new people ate pigs feet down here but I never could because we used to practice surgery and suturing on pigs feet in school.

So aside from human feet I have probably cut into more hogs feet than anything else. Plus my initials would not be a good handle (Alex Sean Simon... just kidding, my name is Joe).

I thought I posted in this the first time it came up, but I just read the whole thread and mine isn't there.

I am a polymer chemist for a company that makes coatings for the inside and outside of food and beverage cans. In fact, we make the "Frost Blue Liner" for Amy's favorite beverage. So I do resin synthesis in the lab, and my first name is Guy.......
