What special feature always makes any knife better?

I like lots and lots of coating on expensive knives.
I appreciate the manufacturer covering up their crappy grinds....

That says quality, to me.....and then I don't have to worry about my exposed pommels rusting/tarnishing
 
Knives can have many special features and details. Some of these features can drastically affect performance, others just make the knife cooler or more fun to use, offer bragging rights, etc.

But what feature, more than any other, ALWAYS makes ANY knife better and cooler?*

I was allowed only 3, or maybe would have said convex also ; because with my freehand they all end up that way . :rolleyes:

Super steels don’t impress me too much. I’ve had D2 blades do great by me. It’s more the heat treat, the grind, and the overall ergonomics of the knife itself. But a strong lock is a must, blade play drives me nuts.
 
*Geometry for cutting
*Heat treatment that’s tested on decent steel ( not super steel of the week according to YouTube ).
*Handle that isn’t covered in angles or textures
*Nothing on the knife that isn’t needed ( gimmicks like bottle opener or screwdriver type shit )
*Nothing on the knife that lessens usability or causes snagging ( thumb disks, choils bigger than 1/8 ).

Most importantly - Dirty Green micarta and brass hardware makes everything better. It’s true.
 
Solid ergonomics, well executed blade shape and grind, great heat treatment. Those are the main “features” I look for in any knife. Gimmicks and other fluffy stuff will sell sure, but solid performance is what makes lifelong customers.

For hard sheaths like kydex, a thumb ramp for an easier draw is nice.

I'm hoping you aren't being factitious about the green and brass? Haha ....I'm thinking of doing Just that coming up on something, or maybe copper
 
YES - why do so many companies feel this isn’t important?
Because when it comes up, certain morons on forums like this like to beat their chest and brag about their sharpening skills by saying “I wish the knife didn’t come sharpened at all, then I could put my own ugly edge on it from the get-go.”
Some companies/reps could’ve seen that and thought, cool 😎 here’s our chance to save some sharpening belts AND labor $$$

I think a good steel/super steel makes a knife hold up longer for the intended cutting purposes. A well-balanced designed knife for the task at hand is also a very important feature. I edc a Spyderco Gayle Bradley #1 with a CPM-M4 steel blade, which I consider to be a super steel, as it is a great cutter that holds up for a long time before needing sharpening.Spyderco Gayle Bradley C134CFP CPM-M4 (2).JPG
