What happened to CRK???

I'm sharpening challenged, and can still sharpen 20V/M390 (adequetly, not perfectly...) on a sharpmaker. it's my current favorite steel over the other "super steels" (S90, S110, etc.), because i can actually sharpen it

My Grayman Dua in CPM20CV has the best edge of anything I've sharpened with my Sharpmaker (medium/fine/ultrafine) and Knivesplus strop. I've had good luck with others too including M390 and S110V.

awesome mirror edges! the only thing i don't have from your set up is ultra fine, which is pretty encouraging. i don't really strive for mirror finishes, just hair shaving sharp is enough for me. vg10, s30v, s35vn, and XHP are my comfort zone for now, and i think i'm getting there with 20v/m390. i've attempted to touch up S90V and S110V, and butchered a 1095 northwoods i own :(

quick question! for the blades you pictured, did you use the 40 degree both angled and flat side of all three stones?

I have to give the credit to the guy that spot it. Check this out...only the first 3 mins
Grab your CRK and measure.....

Luh did you have any issues with your CRKs? Do you own any currently or have you owned any in the past? Just curious if you have any personal experience or if you are just curious because you are thinking of buying a CRK?

Hello, I did own 2 CRK, a small and a big Sebenza. And I did have issues. First, the blades are not evenly profiled, just like the one in the video. also I don't feel the "Sebenza smooth" until I lose the pivot to an unreasonable stage. I always thought that's my own biased opinion until I recently got a Shirogorov neon. I understand the washer and ball bearing works differently but the difference is too much for me.

That is what I did though I have not been using the stone corners much lately. The flats seem to do well for me, at least for touch-ups.

FYI, all of those blades had some damage to the edge (chips, rolls, etc.) so they had a lot of swipes across the stones trying to reduce it. Other blades that just need a touch-up don't have that nice mirror edge. My Benchmades with M390 get especially sharp with very little effort.

This is probably just a fluke, but my new CRK Large Sebenza 21 has slight side to side play and I do not want to wait 2 months to get my knife back.

You could carefully sand down the pivot bushing to tighten things back up. But be careful. I'd only use 2000 grit sandpaper and up.

If it is brand new from a dealer, contact the dealer. They should take care of you.

May also want to check that the screws are all tightened if you haven't already.

I've tried that, I also tried cleaning it up and reputting everything together. Didn't change a thing. Since I took the knife apart the dealer told me to contact CRK.

If it's a pinched washer, sending it to CRK for new washers might be the only way to go. It doesn't always take two months. It all depends.

It doesn't look like the washers are pinched, just looks like they were sanded down half a second too much. The blade play isn't extreme, but it is there and noticeable.

If that's the case then sanding down the bushing may very well solve your problem. It's worked for me before. If you want to avoid sending it in, that's what I'd try next. If you do so and then the action gets too tight you'll have to polish the washers a bit more to dial the action in where you want it while keeping bladeplay eliminated. Just go slow and don't get too aggressive with the sanding.

I would contact CRK and see what they say-most likely send it in, but maybe they will pick up the freight charges
I personally don't like to sand parts. It is the same situation you found with the dealer-once you start messing with it, it becomes your problem. Even when you have the best of intentions.

Yeah, like I said it would just suck to be out of a knife for 2 months.. My mnandi has been at the spa now for about 6/7 weeks.

I think you should just bite the bullet and send it in. What's the point of buying an ultra precisely constructed knife (or what is supposed to be) if you are going to do imprecise fixes on it like sanding things down?

If there is a warranty issue, CRK will take care of it. It will also take priority over spa treatment and you will get it back much sooner. If You screwed it up, they will take care of it, but will charge you for parts and labor. I have had well over 150 CRK. Both Old and Very New....! When Chris was there and when he wasn't. Do you think I would have bought that many if they had bad customer service....?? Give them a chance to make it right first before bashing them on here asking what happened to CRK....!!!

I've owned 2 pre and 1 post. All i can say is they're all perfect except..

When I turned in a 25 for a spa I had my own edge from my KME on it and it was great. Once I got the knife back you could tell they reprofiled the edge back alot. It was terrible. So much so that I wanted to send it back to them and pay for another blade. but instead sold it.

This won't stop me from getting more in the future but I will pay attention and if it's anything less than perfect I will replace it
