What have you been whittling with your traditionals?

That’s looking pretty clean. Be interesting to see it finished and with bands.

Can whittling really get any better than this?

I imagine two boys having this discussion.

My dad whittles ornaments.
Gee that’s swell....My dad whittled me this slingshot!

I don't like the larger spoon, ugly thing. I tried to be a bit clever with an ergonomic handle. Best keep it simple. Will come back to it at some point to make improvements.

Solingen Hen & Rooster Whittler (but looks like a Boker made pattern to me) and Sheffield A. Wright Ettrick (cheap and pretty cheerful).

That is pretty decent. I see what you mean on the larger one. Maybe if you made it sorta flat handled you could get it to suit.

Pretty nice work though especially on the bowls. Thanks for sharing.

Such amazing work here. Well done to all of you. I have a dedicated carving pocket knife but I forget it’s name. It looks like a classic Buck when closed. Can anyone point me in the direction of a thread that specifically discusses pocket knives for carving?

Here is a recent one:

You can use the search function to find some other threads as well, but it is a lot to go through.

Here is some assorted junk I have whittled over the past couple of years:

There is more stuff laying about, too. The spoons, 1/2-cup measure, and lemon juicer get pretty heavy use.

I am currently trying to discover what interesting object lies within this chunk of maple root I dug out of my garden:
What knife is pictured next to that burl? Is that a 35?? Very nice looking

Do you mean the red one? It is a very cheap “The Ideal” knife with hollow stamped steel handle construction with red plastic over that. They were made in Providence RI and sold on cardboard display cards. I modified the pen blade for whittling, but it could stand to be thinned out some more. Here is a more honest picture of it:

pencil points ☹️
I need to get some whittlin' wood ... see if I can whittle something that don't look like a pointy stick/tent stake/anti-vamp stake when I'm finished ...
My hopes of succuss ain't high. An artist I isn't.
