What have you done today to improve your physical preparedness?

35 years old with a bad back (L5-S1 disk)... I went to work for some safety training and then cleaned the house.

I have lost about 15lbs this year... the same weight I put on when I blew out my disk.

I'm hoping for a few short day hikes this year... maybe a float trip. We will have to see what the back says I can do.

I feel your pain brother - I'm 32 and have degenerative disc disease in two of my discs - I herniated one and they think it's torn but I'm not getting the test to tell me if is or not because I'm not going to do anything about if it is.

The one thing that keeps me feeling good is staying in shape so that's what I strive to do. I know when I start slacking because my back hurts badly.

I napped.

But seriously I commute by bike and have a 13 mile loop I do with my dog on my day off.

The closest that I came today was reading about what you did! But seriously, I have given up beer for Lent, which has been tough, and been dieting a lot. My goal has been to start dropping weight and get back into shape for the summer. Working out is no problem, I enjoy that, it's hard to quit over eating...

I walk a lot. Earlier today I threw on the pack and went for a walk in the woods behind the house looking for some horse hoof fungus. I've walked at least a mile and a half a day, and usually more, with the pack on since I bought the new pack (part of what it was about). Also the fire bow studies I've been conducting lately have been a good work out too. Also I am moving some salvaged construction materials and things into an area where I am setting up a sort of...umm... "post...something" urban survival camp for the next part in my urban studies. I've been getting good work outs lately.

Today is a beautiful day and will be my rest day.

I'm going to smoke a cigar on the deck and work on a hiking staff with my Stockman.

did my Patteneted John Riley caveman workout....It;s a tough one so I only doit 2x a week on the off days I run or do MMA

I do semi-powerlifting, aka, I squat, deadlift, bench as following the Bill Starr 5x5 (mostly). My numbers arent great yet, i dont really have the genetics for it, but I love doing it and its a great way to stay in shape.

Doing cardio sucks. I do some sprints and hike. If theres a zombie apocalypse and the zombies are zombieland zombies, not zombie suvival guide zombies, im screwed, unless Im with Tallahasee.

I wouldn't mind hearing more about that patteneted work out.

It's my off day but I'll still put in 3 miles with Jr and the dog. Nice leisurely stroll, nothing crazy.

I rode a stationary bike for 2 / 5 minute stints....so far.
I destroyed my leg while bouldering across a river last Monday
Thank God fer Cyclobenzaprine and cheap moonshine.

Threw the Russian Kettlebells around for an hour like I do everyday! oh the pain is so sweet. :D

Right on! I'm a fan of hiking with a pack to add resistance. Nice pics.

I just got back from a 3 mile walk with my dog and my son. That didn't do anything to HELP these blisters at all.

Weather is getting nice, finally, so I went out and did some trail walking for a couple hours. Brought my fully loaded daypack just for practice. Hopefully I get more time next weekend for a good, long day hike.

About to do a 6 km walk around a lake with the family- pushing a 50 pound stroller. Running still hurts my ankles too much so some good power pushing works for now, probably going to get a child carrier backpack for Nik and I so we can hit some trails this summer (finally! back on the trails, 3 years and I can't wait!!).

I feel you guys.. I have 6 herniated disks.. 3in my c spine... and degenerative disk disease..I have neck and back pain everyday....just keep on truckin...
Myright I'll pm you that routine if you want....

I just watched a 30 minute infomercial about the ab roller.
Not quite sure if this is what you were talking about. :D
It did get my heart racing though....I guess that would be cardio?

Let my cardio go a little and lost 10lb of muscle the year before my wedding this past November and have started getting back into shape.

Bought those perfect pushup handles and have been doing 4 sets of 25 daily with 10 min of dumbell work 5 times a week with about 20 to 30 min of my old martial arts drills and stretching.

Go to our gym in the complex 3 times a week and do 30min on the cross country ski machine and 30 min continuous circuit weight training on the universal.

Walk the dog every day and try to get out on a 4 to 7 hr hike every weekend if I can.
Want to be in land clearing/backpacking shape for this summer, lots of projects......

Today and yesterday was sunny and dry.

Yesterday I tilled up all 3 of my garden patches twice. Then we drove both trucks to the gravel place filled one up with limestone sand and then shoveled that into all the garden patches. The other we filled with gravel and I shoveled that out into all the ruts in the area between my house and barn/chicken coop.

Then today I retilled all the garden patches again, planted some peas and took down a fence.

Also cut up a bunch of downed trees the snow brought down and stacked it all up and then we cut a bunch more brush and burned it.

I can tell I used my muscles!

I worked outside with a 12" machete and a 17" parang to see how fast I could chop through hard and softwoods. Then I ran around for 3 miles in a snowy mountain forest to look for dogwood. I couldn't find any at that particular elevation, dognabbit. While I was out there, I payed attention to my center of balance a bit more to circumnavigate the snow and hidden logs underneath. Helped me work on my balance and still was able to pay attention to the bark on the surrounding trees

The doc had me on that for a while... then the insurance dropped it. Now that I have new insurance I might have to talk to the doc about it again.
