What have you done today to improve your physical preparedness?

The doc had me on that for a while... then the insurance dropped it. Now that I have new insurance I might have to talk to the doc about it again.

Man, where can I find a doc to write me a prescription for moonshine, and an insurance agency to pay for it?

:D

Yesterday I had a great back workout at the gym and plan on doing shoulders today which is my favorite muscle group to workout so this should be a fun day. Back is boring to me.....

I just got done my very first kette bell workout ever. Holy crap is that a good/tough workout. I've never felt that much of a mix between cardio and lifting ever before. I'm wiped out... I did Turkish Get-ups at the end with a 20lb bell - Oh My God.... 3 sets of 5 get-ups on each side. I thought I was going to drop the weight on myself :)

Post up them workouts fellas.

Small hike Sunday in the hills around town testing out the new Kifaru Molle Express. Had to send the waist belt back for a smaller size so it was done without the help of a waistbelt, as such, the shoulders are a little sore this morning, but other than than, great pack, and a great time out, ran across a few herds of deers, took some decent photos of the area and SLC below. Elevation increase of of 1300 ft, decent arond 1850.

For the photos, just change the "number" between 1 and 22... also there is also a "15a".

Family drove me up to the Ensign peak trail head, and let me go, headed up Ensing peak, then east along the ridge to the pipeline... believe its Tesoro's pipeline, to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail which exited at the mouth of the City Creek Canyon and Memory Grove park. Then just a short walk home, had a few people look at me funny when I was crossing the intersections on the main roads, but who cares, it training and was a great little walk... again just increase the "number" before the JPG from 1 to 22, check out 15a if you like.. and yes, JPG must be capital.

Its amazing that people around the area have no clue what there is in such short distance to the town... Its a shame to what they are missing.

This morning I walked about 6 miles of mostly hills near my house. Been doing this 4-6 times per week the past couple of months, occasionally with a ~30lb. pack and/or more distance, along with doing workouts with higher reps than normal to make sure I didn't have(or was used to!) any problems hiking this spring.

Didn't think the supposedly "strenuous" hike to Angel's Landing at Zion National Park week before last(that required using chains they've installed in some of the steepest portions with little other purchase part of the way, since the trail up and the higher sections had ice and snow) was very strenuous, though the approach was unsafe.
Except for my usual foot and knee pain from past injuries, it was easy.
All that mattered was being fit enough to handle the elevation and some steep trails. Walking hills regularly seems to be working well.

I carbo loaded all weekend by drinking cases of beer and dining on plates of bangers and mash and moose burgers.

gotta build up a good layer of fat for the next hike.

Reached a (half)milestone: ran a half mile -- dragging my dog. Kept yelling at him "Damn boy! You're more of a lard ass than I am!"

9 miles on snowshoes trying to keep up w/ her :)

I am working night shift now in basically a sit down type job with only one person around so now I am working out everyday again. I focus on different areas each day and today it is upper body. I am going to start hiking with my kids as soon as the weather lines out some.

spoolup, I felt the same way about people around me when I lived in Western NC. All that natural beauty around and people all depressed.

Anyways, today I did interval training on the treadmill, 1.20 miles ranging between 3.4 to 6.7 mph. Then I went and lifted, trying to recapture some strength recently lost. I worked chest, traps and delts today. About an hour to 75 minutes total.

I needed to clear my head after a stressful weekend so after I got off work in the morning I went running. First time out running in many years, what a eye opener to how out of shape I am :( I'm doing it again today when I get off work :)

I'm trying to quit smoking too with the help of a electronic cigarette, its helping but I think I need to make a stronger commitment to myself.

Maybe try working your way up to running by doing fast walking. Experts say it is really effective over a regular pace and not hard on the knees and joints.
Work your way up to a slow jog?

I'm still trying to quit smoking also. 3 recent attempts, 3 failures. I'll keep trying.

Hiked 6 miles on the building site during the day, 4 types of chest workout and 400 crunches in the evening.

I did a combo of walking and jogging, couldn't run the whole time I probably would have passed out.

Good for you  Nice work setting small attainable goals and pushing towards them. I can't wait to hear about your progression in the days, weeks, and months to come.

My dog normally lags behind as well when I jog with her. Anything past a mile or two and she gets bored. She likes to just sprint around chasing a ball or swimming. She not into the longer jogs. Come to think of it, she gets bored on hikes as well. I'm pretty sure my dog has ADD.

Anyhow - I lifted arms at the gym yesterday and did a killer ab workout. I HATE working my abs with a passion but I love the results.

80 pushups to pre-exhaust, then about 6 or 7 sets of 40-50 with those "Perfect Pushup" things(which I love) in different positions.
4x40 of both dumbbell curls and overhead presses with 30lb. dumbbells.
Not a real workout, but a fantastic pump.

6 miles of hills. No pack. 1hr. 12min.
Wore my MP3 player for the first time today:D
I'm sure my poor knees will thank me later for running down some hills to speed things up. Got surprised by dogs, and almost run over wandering out into the wrong side of the road. Made me think of the wolf attack thread. Maybe no more MP3 player...
