What I Really Like About Kizer

Kizer has/had way too big a catalog. The quality issues have lessened from what I've seen.
I think their bloated inventory spawned a secondary problem; the enormous dealer discounts that ran from mid November until Christmas. They damaged their brand, IMO. I'll never pay full price for a Kizer. Even top (Chinese) dog Reate has poor resale value.

Like a Korean car, they may be great but your not getting anything out if them used

N. Shabazz used to complain about soft Kizer screws, but he doesn't complain about them, anymore (that I know of, anyway). He also came down really hard on the Feist due to its horrible QC.

And what is your take on Kizer screws? You have certainly disassembled them enough times.

Or the Feist?

I could go watch a youtube vid if I wanted to know his take.

I've had great experiences with Kizer. They are some of the smoothest knives I own with great fit and finish. The T1 and Ursa Minor are probably my favorites right now. Frankly, I'm surprised we don't see more about them here on the forum. They easily best some of the more popular models here. My only gripe would be the sharpness and obtuse bevel angles from the factory, which require a reprofile to use the SM 40deg setting. Older pic after I received upgraded clips for three of mine:

This is a clear example (to me anyways) of their bloated catalog - the left four blades are basically the same just different sized (if this is deliberate it still proves my point).

I tell you though, their Guru has always called to me...

I don't buy my knives thinking about resale value, I buy them because I like them and will use them, along with the understanding that I will be keeping them.

Vanguard Intrepid (G10, VG10), Intrepid (Ti, S35vn), Ursa Minor (exclusive of Ray's Little Bear, Gemini Handle with harpoon blade), Mini Intrepid (Ti, M390). Seems like a portfolio like most other brands to me? A budget version, a premium version, a smaller version, an exclusive... Benchmade does this. Griptilian for example?

Funny how a "what I like about the brand" thread brings out all the haters.

Bloated catalog? How about a Spyderco folder with a hole and leaf shaped blade?

Resale? I can pick up a $425 Hinderer for $300 in new condition four days a week.

I happen to enjoy my Spyderco and Hinderer knives very much. As I also enjoy my Kizer knives as well.

My Kizers are fantastic knives for the money. I like titanium handles, bearings, frame locks, S35VN, and zipper pouches.

Of course, to each their own.

Ha ha ha. Yeah, I see a tiiiiiny resemblance between the Sage (all 56 versions), Manix, Native, and Shaman.

Except for the "haters," right? We are having a discussion and sharing opinions about knives. They are not all the same. That's what happens in a discussion forum. No need to start calling people names. Sheesh.

Resale value matters if your tastes change and you want to sell a knife.
I now own 3 Kizers that I enjoy - Flashbang, Flashbang Vanguard and Escort.
From what I've seen, Kizer is very responsive to customer and designer feedback. Hopefully they're back on track. I wish them the best.

It's a forum. If you don't want to hear other people's opinions... don't log on to the internet?

I'd pick a Spyderco over any Kizer. Better blade geometry for slicing. Glad they have such a huge selection of tools.

Oh boy, nothing personal guys and hope your feelings are OK. Responding to what I'm reading - sharing my opinion. I did not quote anyone directly, which does make it personal.

Finding issue with one brand like Kizer when other brands demonstrate similar traits is focused negativity. Check the title - a thread about what knife enthusiasts really like about a brand.

Spyderco makes great stuff, am also a big fan for a long time. Having owned more than a few along the way, my T2 is a better user fixed blade for the money than my last MULE and my T1 flips and carrys better than my Southard did.

Check the title. This thread is about Kizer. Offering one's opinion on Kizer and not other brands is not being a "hater" or or having "focused negativity"...it is sticking to the topic of the thread and not thread jacking it.

I mean, folks could call you "fanboy," but nobody did. We were trying to have a civil discussion about Kizer knives and not people.

I did read the title. It's "what I really like about Kizer". Not "what do you think of Kizer".

Call me a fanboy I can take it, there's a lot to like about Kizer's current offerings.

Don't "really like" something about Kizer, start another thread to spread the hate.

Ah you're right. I'm being a bit biased, those blade and handle shapes are boring to me and they're all framelocks (well, one looks to be a liner lock). I suppose one could (and did) say the same about Spyderco and their leaf blades. But they've got plenty of other blade and handle shapes and locks for some fun variety too! :p

Funny how a "what I like about the brand" thread brings out all the haters.

I don't see anyone "hating" on Kizer, mostly just listing their pros and cons like in any discussion. Just because someone points out that a brand has a con (and they all do) doesn't mean they're haters.

Not sure if it's a millennial thing or not but people these days want to hear all good and no bad. You've got to take them both in stride.

Exaaaaactly. I've come to understand (though perhaps not accept) that on here, a lot of the time people just ignore the stated question or point that starts a thread and use the thread as a springboard to talk about whatever is on their minds. It's definitely less on this particular thread (since we're all at least taking about Kizer), but it happens a LOT. I patiently tried several times to focus one guy on the topic of a past thread instead of his personal gripe, but he was persistently obstreperous, so I finally had to block him. With most others, I think it's just a mild lack of focus, though.

I think you are confusing a forum where people discuss their opinions and a blog where a person states their opinion.

You'll get used to it.

If this thread has gone "off," in your opinion (they do that) , you could address the questions I raised earlier...they were on your topic and no "stance" was given by me at all one way or the other.
