What is an EDC blade?

I know this sounds like another stupid thread (which it probably is), but really, what do people think an EDC blade is?
I have seen many threads on this forum titled favorite Big EDC, Favorite Beefy EDC, people referring to huge knives as EDC blade.
I think people are using the term EDC blade interchangeably with the word knife.
I am under the assumption that an EDC blade is something lightweight and very portable that one can easily and comfortably carry daily, not just any knife that one happens to carry around, one could carry a broad sword around every day, but that does not make it an EDC blade.

What do you all think?

PS, i do sometimes carry bigger blades, but for the most part the biggest knife I carry is a Sebenza, and I don't refer to my bugger knives as EDCs

I think different people have their different definitions of an edc. Some of us like to carry heavier knives, and some lighter. Its all preference. Although i do agree that carrying a sword around everyday doesn't really seem to fit in the category lol.

depends on preference and where i should bring my knife... i do like heavier blades btw. because when it's too lightweight i'd be forgotten i have a knife in my pocket :D

As long as you carry it every day, it counts.:)
Big or small, as Yoda said "size matters not."

Why not just call it a knife, why add the term EDC?

Who knows...I never heard the term till I joined here.
But then again, why not? Just a way for people to let you know which knives they actually carry.:) (or claim to...)

My EDC is a large sebenza + a SAK. I use the "friendly" looking SAK around female co-workers and obvious non-knife people. The Sebenza is carried more for my enjoyment and for use around everyone else who doesn't fit the profile above. I guess it's relative to what you like/ use it for / your level of concern regarding what others
around you may think.

If I carry it every day, why would it not be an Every Day Carry (EDC)? The term describes exactly what it is. And I do have a knife I carry every single day along with pockets full of other items and a hand gun. It shouldn't matter what it is or its size if it meets the definition of the term.

EDC=Every Day Carry. I carry a ZT 301(among others) daily. Why it won't fit the definition of EDC in your opinion, is something I can't fathom.

What bugs me are the people who refer to anything they carry once as "EDC". "This is my Sunday go to church EDC." Do you carry it every day, or once a week to church? If you only carry it once a week, or once a year, or only for weddings and funerals, how can it be your Every Day Carry? I have a host of light, slim, easily pocketable knives that I carry once in a blue moon. They are not EDC knives for me, and I don't refer to them as such.

Because "knife" is ANY knife.
But, an "EDC" is a knife you might carry any day of the week.

So for most of us an "EDC" is not
a hunting knife.
a machete.
a dive knife
a folding knife with a 6" blade.

All EDC's are knives. Not all knives would be EDC's .

That's why you have your EDC knives, your OAW knives, your OWTC knives, and your OFW&F knives :D:p

To me edc means what it means, it doesn't refer to just knives it refers to all the things I carry EVERYDAY- ie. My phone, my zippo, my wallet, bandanna(s), keys, rings(yes I carry them not wear), my maglite, etc.

Just my good ole 2cents

Do you describe your phOne as an EDC phone?

Well quite literal Every Day Carry...

For knives I would say the term "generally" refers to something light weight and suitable for everyday tasks including self defence purposes.
But again it's about personal preference, there are folks on this forum carrying a whooping 14" fixed blade everyday, it wouldn't bug me if they call that EDC.

Just recently I started carring 8" outdoor/hunting knives as my casual everyday carry and I'd call that EDC.

Why not? Some people have more than 1 phone and some carry more than 1 so if they carry it everyday It's EDC even if they call it EDC or not. I dunno why it's any business of yours how people their knives and other gear. I can call mine "my precious" in a whispery, quavering voice and it wouldn't be any concern of yours.
