about the knife testing video on youtube, the guy also did the same to a strider bt also made out of s30v and it took a lot more abuse.

Opinions to back up your decision? You can get that here, and probably double in opposition.

Knowledge to understand the materials, construction, fit and finish, and reputation? Sure, and some idea of why it might not be a good idea overall. The discussion on S30V shows not everybody thinks its a good application for a rough use fixed blade. Other makers use it, though, guarantee it, and I've seen photos of blades before and after refurbishing that point out their value.

Actual owners are the ones to listen to, however, as they have actual hands-on experience and can tell you what they liked, disliked, and where the price finally was assessed as fair or not. Any other non-owner comments are as valuable as the pixels they're printed with, and inversely knowledgeable as the controversy they stir up.

I don't ask for opinions on a forum anymore, I go search answers and find them. You'd be surprised the honesty you get places where knives aren't the first subject line.

Last but not least, what do you plan to do with it? As a EDC box cutter in an urban job, the Green Beret will get you more trouble than its worth. As an outdoor knive for general field use, it's ok. For the money, you can get two or three others and do as well. If you just want to blow money and own one, then anything we say won't really be of any value, except that having one handed to you on graduation of the course is the ONLY thing that really matters.

Then, when it's yours and honorably earned, you might revere it. Otherwise, it's just another knife.

I was wounded in war as soldier, do You think they will get me one?

Nope. Never owned a GB. But I had one of the one pc. knives from Chris. You could chop with it, slice a tomato then take some matches out of the handle and light a camp fire. I sold it a while back because I wanted a Custom Dozier Fixed and have mixed feelings. I should have kept the Shadow 1 and bought the Dozier outright.

If you decide to chop with the GB, be carefull you do not hit a nail or something. You can seriously chip the blade or crack it. A2 the edge will probably only roll and will be much easier to fix.

Really?

Since 23 August 2002, a serialized version of the CRK Green Beret (referred to in SF as the Yarborough, after LTG William P. Yarborough, former commander of the U.S. Army Center for Special Warfare and who played a key role in getting JFK to authorize wear of green berets as official headgear for SF personnel in 1961) has been presented to graduates of the Army's Special Forces Qualification Course. When did the Navy start issuing a CRK Green Beret to graduates of BUD/S?

I had one of them , no issues . Don't thinkit will fail under reasonable conditions .

Chris

There is nothing level-headed about noss4's test.

I totally agree...that's what makes them fun.:D

The last thing I want to see is just another guy telling me about how he sliced a tomato or whittled a stick. I can do all of that stuff with my $3 Victorinox paring knife. At least noss is out of the ordinary.

Ultimately his tests aren't any more unscientific than anybody else's, just more outrageous and over the top. His hammer bashing is no less subjective then somebody telling me he likes how a knife feels in his hands.

I enjoy the heck out of knifetests but I don't give his results any more validity than and of the myriad other knife reviews I find online. Nor do I let videos of someone rolling their Jeep over on a hill influence my truck buying decisions. It's all good entertainment to me.

As to the OP's question: the CRK knives seem to have a very low cost/value ratio when considered strictly as tools...but few people who buy them are shopping for just a tool. What makes a CRK valuable to most buyers is the combination of a lot of subjective factors. If it meets their needs then more power to them.

CRK must be doing something right because they have managed to stay in business all these years.

i got one. i ain't no special forces. haven't used it. nice knife, good f/f. a bit expensive. all i've read about normal usage is positive. you may have to give it a good sharpenning, some say the fresher edge won't chip. i don't know . my busse family knives are my hard use ones, now those are really expensive!

good luck and cheers, kimo

i believe the neil roberts knife is given to seals. the gb is given to special forces. when i was in force recon (85-91), we bought what we wanted! the kabar issue was lacking.:grumpy:

ps- i got the neil roberts too!:D

pss- i got the pacific also!:D

cheers!

Does anyone know what happened to Noss? Was he banned for some reason?
I always thought he was strong in his arguments for his purpose but
never over the line.

i have an friend who was in force recon around that time and he loved the kabar.

cabala i think you should just buy what you want regardless of what other people (espeacially anonymous people on the internet) have to say about it. this forum can be a wonderful resource for the knife consumer and collector but people on here are generally biased as all hell some people hate spydercos and some people think they cure cancer.. when you are really passionate aobut something reaosn and logic seem to go out the window on some things. only you can decide if a knife is right for you same goes for most things in life i dont give a flying f@%^ what anyone says about who i love who im friends with and who i support politcally theyre deeply personal choices and for some people knife and gun buying is the same way alot of people on this forum are the exact same way. so get whatever knife makes you happy even if its made by dork ops its your opinion that really matter.

as for the whole s30v thing strider does just fine and in my time in the military ive seen a few striders.

i dont think chris reeve envisioned a man beating his knife with a hammer when he and harsey designed it. in my opinion its probably a great knife i own a warrior knife and its rock solid, it was among the first good knives i bought myself and im proud of it to this day somehting about it just spoke to me and i had to buy or else some preppy bastard or idiot college student might buy it and stick on their desk as a conversation piece :barf:

Yes, actually, they are -- because he tries to draw firm conclusions from them that are not warranted.

There's a distinction between the tests themselves and what is extrapolated from the results. Any statistician will tell you that you can't infer much from a sample size of one.

Performing the tests and drawing conclusions from them are two entirely different things. I can make that distinction even if the guy performing them cannot.
