What is INFI?

Not modified A8? Perhaps not by your definition, which is a specific manufacturer's steel available on the street (Latrobe).

By "Modified A8" I did not mean Latrobe's "Modified A8" that you have quoted, rather a special composition that was loosely based on A8, in other words A8 that has been modified for the end user's (Busse) requirements. It is not a stock item you can look up on a steel manufacturer's chart like you suggest in the post above. in other words, it is a version of A8 that was modified to suit Busse.

We are not mollified by your definition of modified.

Here's the AISI description of UN-modified A8

TYPICAL ANALYSIS

Carbon........ .56%
Manganese..... .30%
Silicon....... .95%
Chromium...... 5.00%
Molybdenum.... 1.25%
Tungsten...... 1.25%

Now we not only have Silicon and Manganese to get rid of in order for INFI to spark test the way it does but also Tungsten! Yay!!! To put another way, you're suggesting that somebody wanting a BMW would go to a Mercedes dealership and have them "modify it" into a BMW instead of just buying the BMW. You go to a steel mill and tell them that you want a batch of A8, but without any Silicon, Manganese, or Tungsten and you also want to add Cobalt, Nickel and Nitrogen and the response would be, ".....then you don't want A8." Or "Sure, and let me tell you about the awesome deals we have on 440B----er, I mean, our new exclusive 1095 Modified...see, it's a stainless version of 1095 that has less Carbon and specially added Silicon, Molybdenum and Chromium. You won't find it ANYWHERE else!!!"

Sorry, bullshit. Even modified bullshit, still not buying it.

It's good steel, easily sharpened and tough as heck. Marketing doesn't create those attributes.

Truly good steel (), but also for the large part, thick stock offerings that are not as conducive to slicing and cutting as numerous other makers.

Imho, the majority are best left as durable choppers... :)

I agree. When I want a knife for general cutting chores, I reach for a folder or thinner stock fixed. When I want a knife that I know can be hammered through 60+ feet of bamboo, a truck's cab bushings and used to loosen up rocky soil all before needing to be sharpened, I grab my Busse.

In my manila rope cutting tests it shows average results:

Regards, Vassili.

Our testing showed average results as well with INFI.

In "LIVE" demonstrations at the BLADE show and other gun and knife shows, we were only able to cut through 3,100 pieces of one inch hemp rope with the same section of blade before running out of rope!

When you compare the 3,100 cuts done with INFI, to the numbers of cuts done by other makers and manufacturers in "LIVE" demonstrations you can see how "average" 3,100 pieces really is.

Let's Drink!!!!

Well, no one else did this demonstration. It will have meaning only if it is done side by side.

Was it ever done side by side with othe makers/manufacturers knives?
What is results for other makers and manufacturers?

Like may be it was INFI ever present on one of regular ABS competitions?

Only side by side testing I know about so far was done by me and bu Noss4.

INFI demonstrates exceptional toughness by batoning through steel pipe after all Noss4 tests whic no other knife did and it was only brand which match expectation while some other tough knives fail.

But INFI does not show exceptional results on my tests and was way behind Doziers D2 and ZDP189 (and SR101 by the way 52100 by Swamp Rat).

Thanks, Vassili.
