What is missing in ESEE's product line?

I know I'm new here and not yet a part of "The Pack" but I thought I'd toss in my thoughts on what would make a nice addition to the ESEE line up.

I would say a knife with a blade length somewhere between the 4" & 5" range with the heavy duty .25" stock, a flat grind (as opposed to saber)... make it a little wider, say closer to the RC5 (or maybe a little wider still? 5/8ths maybe)

Add in a nice sized choil and (possibly) an option for a foward mount lanyard (which I prefer when chopping with a normal size knife)

Include a bow drill pivot on the handle material and offer it in Micarta or Orange G10.

The RC5 and RC6 are so similar (other than the stock thickness)... but there is a bit of a gap between the 4 and the 5... so that would bridge that gap and make one hell of great North American pack/camp multi use "survival" field knife.
Just a thought....

1) DPx Shovel - just make the best damn folding shovel on the market. This is my number one want from ESEE
2) ESEE 8 - 8" full flat grind and the thickest blade in the lineup
3) A rust proof steel option for most knives
4) Field sharpening kit
5) Convex edge option
6) Coyote Brown color option - this is the best selling color for other tactical companies

Love the ESEE 5, Izula and HEST.
Right now only have a modded Izula.
I really want an ESEE 5 but would likely mod it/customize it, the black finish and grips would likely be removed soooooooooo........
Maybe sell the ESEE line knives as blade blanks (maybe uncoated) at a lesser price, then owners can add to/ mod/customize them.

How many times did we say a knife from 7" to 8", 0.2 or 0.25 thick, flat grind, finger choil?

How about a non framelock folder with a reversable clip so us lefties can sport an ESEE folder too !!! I really like the reference guide idea, as well as the wharncliffe Izula. Another plus for me would be optional leather sheaths. I know you can get them aftermarket, but I mean straight from the factory

I always liked the stacked leather handle on my Ontario pilots survival knife...how about a ESEE knife with a stacked micarta handle...? It could have a slight oval shape and subtle finger grooves so you could know where the edge is quickly. It would have to be a stick tang, but that doesn't mean the "stick" has to be thin.

Is any other current knife company doing stacked handles aside from the classic Ontario/Ka-Bar styles? I'm sure there are collector hunting knives out there with stacked handles, but nothing in the way of hard use type knives like ESEE.

SOG.
SOG Bowie 2.0, Sog Super-Bowie, Marbles Trailmaker Bowie.
Sog Trident Fixed Blade has stacked micarta handle.
I can vouch for the toughness of the Sog Trident and Marbles Trailmaker Bowie.
Also Linder knives has a Tanto with leather Kabar style handle.
I don't have any experience with Linder brand though.

lots of good comments here, I've posted a couple times at least as this list grows..

I'm kinda Khukri crazy at times so let me make a list..highest priority first

1. option with uncoated blade.. it is what it is type deal, just etched nothing fancy
2. Izula in ORANGE
3. Divers Knife in bright colors, 440c or better.
4. Khukri Machete (I told you I'm nuts) in a 1/4" thick blade 12-13" long blade
5. Sheaths with option of a guard against your skin to make re-holstering easier.
6. Shovel, Glock like with an optional sharpened edge.

+20 on the orange Izula. That's what I went looking for. Got a pink one instead. Might have to paint it myself.

A Bowie sized H.E.S.T!!!! :D

Maybe a 7" blade length....now that would be sweet!

I'd like to see the following:

A smaller bladed knife (approx 2 in) along the lines of maybe a "mini Izula" Maybe with a clip on it to allow for deep pocket carry of a fixed blade knife.

Nylon sheaths sized for the fixed blade knives as an OEM replacement for the kydex.

Some kind of canteen and stainless cup combo. Nalgene did their version of the military canteen, no stainless cup though.

Would like to see something similar but maybe with a deeper cup and longer canteen to go inside. Perhaps have a nice bag with different carry variations to place them.

I can only imagine with the survival courses they teach in Peru, I am guessing they stress disinfecting water repeatedly. A good deep stainless cup can definitely make that easier.

I didn't read through all the posts to see if this was already mentioned, and if so, +1 on this!

I see the ESEE line as covering almost all the bases that one could look for in a blade designed to perform well in a survival/wilderness type situation. What I would love to see though, is this same knife designs offered in a higher quality steel type.

I'm kind of hesitant to say this, because my ESEE has not failed me in any sense of the word, so apparently 1095 is good enough for anything I can throw at it, but I know there are a lot of great steels out there and it's the only real "CON" that any ESEE doubters can ever bring to the table.

What do you guys think? Anyone else want to see an Izula made of INFI? Ok, INFI was obviously a joke, but something tougher with better edge holding ability? Maybe better corrosion resistance? Anyone else see this as an opportunity?

In my opinion, 1095 is the best steel for the ESEE style blade. There are very very few steels that can take the same level of beating/flexing, and still hold true for edge holding. Personally I find corrosion resistance in a survival/camping blade to be about as useful as "tatas" on a bull.

+1 on an ESEE 8, the blade blanks idea, and the shovel.
Also like the idea of an orange izula, and non coated blades.

I dont think this has been said. The thing keeping me from buying a HEST is the bottle opener. I think the knife should be made without it, id buy one if it was.
