What is the best or some of your favorite big ol' camp knifes?

My brother just got a. Wander Tactical Godfather and that bugger is a beast! As for me I have a Wenger Blades Tracker.

I've owned and used several choppers over the years both custom and production. All have been sold or traded except for one, the Skrama. Great steel and very comfortable to use. The extended grip allows for some serious power swings. You can also choke up on the handle for fine work. Best bang for the buck, IMHO.

You might like this recent one from Buck (Talon)

I know it is insane, but I always bring my "Outrider Bowie" from Deepeeka.

I reground the edge and am currently finishing the new handle scales, but it cuts almost as good as a hatchet and is far more fun for untrained people to work with. Even the laziest camper wants to try and cut wood with this thing and it takes a clumsy batoning far better than my hatchet's haft. The best part is you can still pick up this hefty project knife (it will take some work to make these useful) for less than $20 at kultofathena, but don't expect the HT to be good on every piece. There is too long of a record of Deepeeka having serious HT issues, I just got lucky on this one.

hard to beat the ontario ct5 heavy duty machete ... 27.5" overall length
solid 1075 steel, use it like an axe & machete, it's really excellent
(only drawback if your hand isn't large, you may want to work on the handle)

you won't find a better large heavy duty camp chopper for $25

Anyone use a Svord Von Temskey?
I had one a while back but sent it back to the dealer. It had a bunch of spots where the torch was on the blade too long it looked like and left small spots about fifteen of them all over the blade. They looked like finger prints or something. It was a heavy beast though and really thick.

Thanks, do you think the heat spots from the torch may haveaffected the heat treatment?

IMG_0433.JPG IMG_0434.JPG IMG_0435.JPG I have a very thin, almost small machete like, blade by Dave Farmer (DF mark?) that I like to use when I trim small branches and bushes around the house. Purple heart wood scales. Thin and about 8 to 9 inches, which gives it just enough heft to slash and cut.

This in heaps ^
And thats the thing the Skrama did the same for me, and likely to do the same for most people. If the Skrama is not enough you need an axe. I just wish I'd thought up the design and they had been about 30 years ago. (I still have my old Blackjack Marauder II from those days, but its too much to weald now.)
Yes, Skramas are that good as a work tool.

Love the variety of blades shown on the thread. Many will get the job done. Know your blade well and its hard to change to something else. Old faithful and all that. Well the Skrama is mine now, and I even have a spare as I don't want not to have one handy.

A storm took this tree down. The Skrama bites deep! Kind of hard to see, but the branch on the left was removed with two swings, leaving the "V".

I had one of these on the 80's; do you use one currently? This thing used to rip up and blister my hand so bad thats what i remember most about it hope you had better luck than i did.

Well I contacted a custom knife maker here on BF and sent him some pics and he said he would most definitely send it back. I contacted the knife dealer and they said they had about 5 or 6 of them and they were all pretty much the same. I've never seen another one in all the pics I've looked at of them that had all these burn spots on the blade. The blades are mostly just a nice blueish color from the blue backing process.

Sorry that had to happen.
