  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What is the best or some of your favorite big ol' camp knifes?

I had one of these on the 80's; do you use one currently? This thing used to rip up and blister my hand so bad thats what i remember most about it hope you had better luck than i did.

yes I got this just a few months back, and so far it's been no problem...

having said that, I have not used it continuously for more than hour (like if I need to clear a long woods path)
my plan is to remove the plastic scales and put ironwood on it, both longer (allowing for a 2handed grip) and a bit thinner than the original scales. That should make it just about perfect

My favorites are my Cold Steel SRK in VG1 and my beloved Buck 119. The CS is a beast in terms of performance, you can do anything with it and it will never let you down even when heavily abusing it. The Buck is also a great knife, of course not as sturdy and strong as the SRK but it is a very classy camp knife. If you like beautiful objects then you can not go wrong with the 119

Yeah changing those thick plastic scales and thinning them out should help.

Some preferred choppers include:
Bill Siegle (orange handle is not really a chopper):

Fiddleback Forge 12" machete:

Ontario Knives GEN 2 SP-52

For a truck knife I keep a Ontario 12” machete. It’s a great USA made blade and super affordable if it got stolen. And honestly does everything I could want and need for like 20 bucks. Lol.if only it a had Res-c handle I’d be in heaven

The BK-7 is about as large as I will carry hiking and generally it is because I think I may need a larger blade for whatever. The first time I looked at your pictures I wondered what the orange flower pots were along a stream.... then I realized you took the picture with a wide angle lens. :D

@GREENJACKET Yes, it is mostly about fun.

The orange flower pots are the Sea to Summit X-mugs :p
