What is the one Spyderco that you feel every collector should have at least one of?

Military. The Delica is great and maybe the most recognized by average people, but you asked what every Spyderco collector should have. The Delica would qualify for "what knife should a guy have if he only wanted one reasonably priced knife that wouldn't let him down." The Military just has something about it, cannot tell you what though.

Hard to say. Worker comes to mind, give that it was Spyderco's first knife. SS Police comes to mind as one of the most iconic, and the one that's been in continuous production the longest. Q comes to mind, as both the "beanie baby" of the Spyderco world and a superb combination of ergonomics and minimalist design.

Military > Endura > Delica >Stretch.

I really do not care for the PM2.....Nothing wrong with it, just way over hyped imho.

I vote Military. The fluted titanium frame lock variant to be more specific. Wonderful knife.

I , too , feel the PM2 is way overhyped. It's decent but there are many other Spydercos that I would choose over it.

Mili over PM2 all the way. I really don't like the Compression Lock. It interferes with the one hand operation. To much manipulating in the hand to disengage the lock. Liner lock and frame lock are PERFECT for precise one hand operation.

Yes I would agree with you on the ss police. That was actually the first knife that came to mind but I was reticent to suggest it since i don't actually own one. (I should probably remedy that) Iconic is the perfect word!

I don't own one but have played with a couple, and that's the Military since the discussion is about Spyderco collectors. There's a reason why there's been one design (I think) since it first came out and will still be produced even after the Military 2 is released.

At first thought and because I own one, I think PM2, but although it'll be revered down the road as an all-time classic, I don't think IMO it's quite on the same level as the Military in this discussion.

I think the Delica is a good first Spyderco (skip the Chinese ones) and one that's uber reliable, but still think the Military beats it out in terms of this topic. And of course every knife nut should have a Delica in their collection at some point.

I'm going to have to go with the Sage 2 because it kills so many birds with one stone. First of all, it has the classic look and feel of a Spyderco. Second, it has the same blade steel (well, S30V actually), handle material, locking mechanism and overall size as the Chris Reeve Sebenza at a fraction of the Sebenza's price. And third, it obliterates the argument that knives manufactured in China (or more properly, Taiwan) aren't as well-made as their domestic counterparts. In my view, the Sage 2 is more than just a knife . . . it's a trifecta!

Without a doubt the PM2. Unique lock, fantastic blade shape, great handle. Iconic knife. There is a reason why they are so hard to find new.

I do not own a Military or Paramilitary yet and I have not handled them so I can not speak knowledgeably about these knives.

What I can speak about is the Delica. I have owned many of these and have purchased them for gifts in a variety of flavors.

I love this freakin' knife. I feel like it is the "working mans" knife. It is readily available. It is affordable. It comes in a variety of configurations. It is easy to manipulate for large or small hands. It is a great performing blade that will handle a wide variety of cutting tasks. It is easy to maintain. If not abused, will last practically forever.

It is one of those unassuming knives that delivers and just shouts Spyderco.

And after all... how many Spyderco collections has this knife started? I would venture to say quite a few.

This is why I think that at least one Delica should be in every collection.

I like hearing everyone's opinion on this so keep them coming. I have already started a list of knives that I will be purchasing because of this thread!

Although it's not my personal favorite Spyderco, I have to agree with the original poster and go with the Dellica.

Interesting comments on the Military vs Pm2. Personal preference reigns no doubt. Size plays a big part between those 2.

But...I bet if you had a race between 2 users, side by side, Millie vs PM2...one handed open, lock, close...you'd have a hard time getting a difference in the time split. Does that matter? Heck no! But the PM2 is a totally one handed knife. It is over hyped I guess. But it is one of the EXTREMELY few items I was still impressed with in spite of the hype. That doesn't happen much these days for me.

PRECISION VS speed. I don't care about speed. The PM2 has to be rolled back and forth in the hand to disengage the lock and close the blade. The Mili doesn't. You literally do not have to change your grip from open to close. That's precision.

Military. Big knife that carries small. I still have my Military S30V ComboEdge from 2005. Got the spa treatment last year and it's as good as new.

I'd also get at least one Spyderco from every country where Spyderco makes one.

I felt the same way about the compression lock, until I learned how to do it. But then I have no problem with liner locks and frame locks.

Dragonfly! Sharp as all hell for how tiny it is. Very strong wire clip. I may like it more then my bigger blades.

I'll be the first to say it...

The Tuff. Why, you ask? Because it is a freakin beast. It just makes you feel good inside when you flick that big piece of 3V open. I love my Tuff more than any of my other Spydies. It's not fast, but it's not a slouch either. Suuuuper smooth, and built like a bank vault. Plus, the blade geometry is perfect for a convex edge IMHO, and I prefer convex edges. Just my opinion.

After that, I'd say PM2, followed closely by the Yojimbo 2. Lighting fast, smooth as glass, compression lock (I like it personally).
