What is up with the Raja II?

Here come the haters....

Certain one has already been dinged by the mods in another Cold Steel thread, I see it happening again shortly, It seems they have a spydie sense for the name Cold steel , because every thread mentioning cold steel a certain poster in this thread seems to voice his opinion on how crappy Cold Steel knives are...

bleedingfinger- Has the blade on you Rajah 1 been modified any? it looks to have been reground and either convexed or zero grind, or did they all come like that?
Nope it came just like that from the factory. I am less than a novice with sharpening, so couldn't tell you what kind of edge it is, but maybe the rajah I, got a different edge then the rajah 2?

this thread started off like a bash Cold Steel session. Glad it evolved to show the Rajah 2 as a winner for its intended purpose, that being self defense and a reasonable stand in for a fixed blade.

Mine is beat to hell and back, you can search through threads for the story of defending myself with it against a feral dog.

Needless to say, love the Rajah, I can't imagine carrying some snack size $400 penis augmentation/forum fan boy folder in its stead.

Yes I see the same people popping up to simply interject trouble lol I generally ignore them ....
As far as saying you don't need a folder that big, it's just another option for carrying and use vs a fixed blade that big.
... As far as coldsteel haters. I have owned all the nice production brands, benchmade folders, bussekin fix blades, spyderco like crazy, etc etc etc... Cold steel provides a great value and I have never had any problems with them. Their more expensive jobs live the rajah I, or black talons, sables, etc again are a great value. Semi custom for a couple bills. They claim the deal strongest lock up in the business. I do know the lock on this raja as well as the ak47 I had is a vault like monster. I like cold steel and often recommend them to friends who aren't knife people but want something decent.

I have a Cs ak-47 , never carried it so I made it my mission to break it, I beat that knife , threw it into trees tried to chop cinder blocks, etc. I broke the tip of the blade but never had a lock failure. I broke the blade by hammering the knife into a tree then hitting it sideways. the blade was probably 75% into the tree and only the tip broke.

I have a Rajah II. I see it as a folding hatchet. I've taken it out in the woods myself and used it to chop vines that were choking trees. But I usually use my Vaquero Grande for that job.

I really don't like people sneering at gear that others have made a legitimate case for carrying. You don't like it, say so. But don't imply we're wrong or stupid for thinking otherwise.

Really Esav?

Tell me the case for carrying a $400 "tool" that goes over and above the "look at me" factor...or just do what you do and hit the ban button.

I love my Rajah II. First thing I fell in love with was the price, $50 NIB at a little antique mall. The second thing I fell in love with was the lock which is rock solid. After that it was just more love all the way around. As far as using it goes I treat it just like what it is, a folding kukri. It can do most any thing my other Kukri do it just takes up less room until I need it.

I like the look of the Rajah II. I'm not really a Cold Steel fan but this knife looks sick.

Didn't Mickey Rourke use one in The Expendables ?

To be honest I rarely to never use my Raja 2. But I still like it. That's enough for me.

It appears everyone who actually owns the knife LOVES it.
If I'm deciding between any price point of 3-4''inch tactical folder there is hundreds of options. I think the reason people like the rajah so much, is it is like nothing else. And for what it is, it is very well executed design and build.
If I have one, you know what we mean. If you want one or are on the fence BUY IT! And if you don't understand this Knife or think it's unnecessary or stupid, then it's not for you.
Hmm maybe I should go check out cold steels new offerings, it's been awhile since I got a new cs.
PS... If it wasn't for coldsteel I wouldn't be on this forum. Their catalog, proof dvd and extensive variety of models as well as buying a few of their knives, was a big part of getting into this hobby.

Although It has really crappy steel (Aus-8), it is very handy when traveling to the tropics. I have taken my Rajah II to Fiji, Panama, Honduras, and Peru. EAch time, I was in a jungle setting. The nice thing about the Rajah II is that is an effective pocket machete. I have chopped many coconuts open with it. When I was in Panama, I used it to split kindling. I even cut a few trees down with it (it has a really nice sweet spot and it bites very deep). I used it also to cut some fairly decent sized bamboo, and anything else you can think of for jungle use.... Vines, meat, fruit, etc. It is also nice having one in your pocket when you go to really dangerous areas like San Pedro Sula, where you never know if someone is going to attack you just for being white. One time, I thought I was about to be mugged in Puerto Maldanado, Peru and it was pretty reassuring that I had that bertha of a folder in my pocket.

Yes, the Rajah II is retarded for carry in the states. And the thing is like 13 inches overall or something stupid like that. I Would much rather carry a large fixed blade here in the states. But it conceals fairly decent for what it is and the thumb studs act like a wave feature which is nice. BUT I HAAATE AUS-8 steel. It is garbage.
I try not to be a hater for haters sake, and as a certifiable knife nut I should be more understanding, after all I can dislike a design without taking to a forum to ask, but seriously what is up with the Rajah II?! Is this thing retarded or what? What do people even use these things for anyways? I am serious, I just don't get it. Help me understand why?! What do you use your Rajah II for?

I used to hate CS, mostly because of the goofy videos and Lynn Thompson's marketing style. I bought a couple of their Camillus made Carbon V knives, then one of the old VG1 Japanese Voyagers... and somehow I ended up with about 20 of their knives and tomahawks.

I've got four of their XL folders, and old Vaquero Grande, two Voyagers and a Talwar. I find they carry more discretly than a Rajah. My main reason for owning them is that they are fun. They wouldn't be my first choice for a purely practical knife, but I've got lots of those, so from time to time I'll purchase and carry something just because I like it. The second reason is self defence.

My country is not very safe, gun ownership is very restricted, gun carry is restricted even further. When I can't have one of my .357s, I'd rather have a big strong knife than my bare hands.
