What kind of folder do you carry?

I like their saws for yard work. Sturdy and great for larger stuff.

When I camp I prefer a simple laplander. Easy to cary(small and light), fits in my bag well. I don't normally need to cut anything large when camping.

I like keeping some basic tools in the trunk - especially in the winter or when heading into areas without cell reception.

We ran into this last weekend:

We were able to delimb a bunch of the upper branches to drive around but a saw would've been a lot easier.

Kind of different but looking to get a folding saw for camping/yard work. Pretty set on Silky pull saws but can't decide whether to get a straight or curved blade. The curved versions are double the price of the straight ones.

Any thoughts?

I have a curved Silky and love it. It may be a bit more expensive but compared to what I spend on knives... If I remember right, the thought is the curved blade bites a little harder during your pull stroke where it "wraps" around the limb. I do think this is true in actual use as well. Silky makes a great saw and I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Thanks for your input! I'm sure I'll eventually end up with a curved saw but I ended up ordering the straight-blade Silky Gomboy 240mm for a couple reasons:

1) It was $46 vs $78 of the curved version. After picking up a HDFK 2 weeks ago, pre-ordering the FK2 + extra scales, and committed to buying a Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe off a friend, there isn't much budget left to spring for the curved version haha

2) The straight version came with medium teeth while the curved only had the options of either large teeth (good for green/soft woods) or fine teeth (good for dry/hard woods). Since I'm planning on using this for a variety of tasks at home and in the field, the medium teeth seemed like a good compromise.

It's arriving tonight and I'll be bringing it on a canoe trip this weekend alongside my HDFK :D and maybe the Gransfors SFA if I have time to pick it up before Saturday.

My Spydercus family:

I had pretty much given up on landing that new Shaman Cru-Wear / Micarta as the chase for one had just became ridiculous! Still on the so-claeed preorder list but not holding my breath at all. Anyway, since I sulked like a baby, went ahead and ordered the CF/S90V version from National Knives LLC (he may still have a few more left and seems like heckuva guys since he actually bothered to read my comments in the order! Plus he's a BF.com supporting dealer). The Shaman is truly a beast of a folder for Spyderco and not as dainty thin as the their Millie or their Police 4  (compared to my past Shiros). It is probably as stocky as a CPK-EDC!!! Gotta take a comparison photo.

Love the blade (shape/grind) on the GB1. A little on the heavy side for its size, but what beautiful lines...

Thanks bud :) That GB1 is actually an all p*mped-out GB1 with milling of the internals and anodized black/gun metal gray or whatever with some sterilization of the markings (I bought it off someone else like this) so it weighs around 5 oz vs the factory ones weight at 5.5 oz. Also they had it chamfered and sh*t like that so it doesn't dig into one's hands!

Thanks Mat for posting these comparison pictures, got a question for you after owning all the usual best sellers, is this your last folder purchase before CPK folder? I.e. is it worth chasing the Shaman?

My last folder before CPK’s? Naaah, not by a long shot you silly puppy! LOL.

I already got a Shiro coming as early as next week but as a credit to me, it’s the entry level with Elmax which Lord Nathan approves of plus I spent the same kinda $ as they sell for in Russia which is a very decent deal :)

But one thing for sure, I’ll try to stay under $300 till CPK’s
