What kind of hat do you guys wear ?

The functional hats always look goofy.

Better to look funny than feel funny from a bad sunburn.

Picked up one of these cheap. I was out all day yesterday fishing, 97*, UV index was 9 or 10. Wore it, a long sleeve Magellan fishing shirt, and khakis. While I looked a little goofy I was good to go. I stayed extremely comfortable all day. I think I've found a new summer hat.

The only thing goofy about those hats is that I usually only see them worn by Asian tourists at six flags.

Amen. Down here one bad sunburn is all it takes to make you wear "goofy" stuff. And sunscreen.

Truth. Always worth covering up if you plan to stay out for long.

and don't think you're safe just because it's cold. It can happen anywhere. You can get a wicked sunburn at midnight at the south pole. All that sun coming in at a low angle reflecting off the ice. Ouch.

I have a couple of Tilleys that I have been wearing for the last 10 years. However, this past winter I bought a Stetson fedora, don't remember the model, and when it got too hot for the Stetson I bought a cheap straw fedora. This week I bought a little nicer straw fedora made by Scala.

I used to wear baseball caps all the time but after having several pre-cancer spots removed from my ears I decided I needed more coverage so started wearing brimmed hats. I am bald so I have kept my head covered for about the last 40 years.

Found "cowboy style" straw hat from discount and I must say I have never really wanted to keep any knd of hats during summer until now. Wind breezes nicely through it and keeps your head cool!

*When* the sun shines, a Telikon-Hex boonie hat. Dirt cheap and squashes into pocket.

Also wear a Tilley Airflow, love it and think a brimmed hat is pretty critical these days. Not getting younger.

Most common hats I wear are ball caps. I wear a long brimmed one fishing, and regular ones most other times. Most common ones are TN Vols, Alabama C Tide, a TN state park cap, and Lowe's caps. I tend to just grab one when I need one and I don't think of them as a fashion statement. Sometimes wear a straw hat doing yard work if it is really hot and sunny. I have various hats kayaking which are chosen often for visibility.

Tilley TH4 , hemp hat with extended brim front and rear. Size 8
hats are not easy to come by. Lifetime guarantee, and it floats
in water, like you're gonna find that in Tucson!

During the summer - Guatemalan palm hats from SunBody Hats. 4 1/2” or 5” brims. Very sturdy and great UV protection (UPF50+).
During winter - beanie hats or cheap Indy style fedoras. Sometimes a cheap wool felt cowboy hat.

I would have to say that a lot of functional hats are goofy looking, but not all.
My G.I. patrol cap is highly functional and doesn't look goofy at all.
Well maybe a tiny bit with the flaps down though.

In the bush functional reigns, and fashionable dies.

I have two hats I wear. The Red Sox cap I'll wear if I just get up and want to take the dogs for a run and don't shower first. The other one is if I'll be walking around all day in the sun so I don't burn my scalp (my hair is a thin whisper of what it used to be).
