what knife brands will you not..........

PARAGON...............my momma said if I couldn't say something nice, to not say nothin' at all.:barf: :barf:

Emerson, Microtech, Sebenza, William Henry, etc. ... too rich for my blood. I'd rather spend the dough on seeing the world, or on my other hobbies. I'm a knife user, not a collector and my $50 Endura cuts like a champ. Same goes for my SAKs, my Old Timer, my little Case penknife, my Leatherman Wave, and so forth.

Case. Every single one I've handled has felt like junk. Loose blades, poor walk/talk, dull, cheap steel, etc. Other than looks, they're not half the knife of a Schrade Old Timer.

Chris

For some reason, I've never been compeled to buy any Emerson's. I'm not sure why, but Benchmade seems to keep me broke...

Rev_JCH,

Which ones won't you buy from?

I think that the brands we currently won't even consider could always improve in the future or go broke and sell their patents to better companies that will turn previous won't-haves into future must-haves.

That said, I will never buy anything new from REKAT! :p

There is only 1 big name brand I refuse to buy and that is Schrade. I haven't handled Schrade's high dollar collector knives, but I think they should stick with making traditional pocket folders and fixed blades because their attempts at modern folder designs like the Lake & Walker II, Beast, Cliphanger, Avatar, X-Timer, and Simon are really crappy. Also, I will not buy any of the rubbish that bears the logo of Frost Cutlery, Master Cutlery, Fury (Joy Enterprises), V-Tech, nor will I buy anything sold buy the likes of BudK. I will not buy any Meyerco knives, Gutmann or Junglee knives nor would I buy anything made in Pakistan. While I admit to owning several Smith & Wesson folders (all of them D. Ralph designs) the vast majority of the stuff made available by Taylor Cutlery sucks. Have you seen those disgraceful Taylor Cutlery Cuttin' Horse folders?:barf:

There are brands I've looked at and never bought. Spyderco leads that list. I wouldn't buy Microtech or Chris Reeve. Lots of money for designs I don't like. I wouldn't buy and Emerson mostly for the design reason.

Phil

I don't guess I would buy anything from United Cutlery that I've ever seen. Meyerco is another one I don't care for.

Until Emerson started talking about the Persian Tactical, they didn't interest me, not because of a quality issue, but because I'm not a big tactical fan as a rule, or a fan of the chisel grind.

I'd never buy something from CR...
All this hype about the Sebenzas around here made me HATE (and I really mean it) that knife and hence all other CR knives by association.
They might be top notch and extremely reliable and usefull, but I don't even find them visually appealing :(
So I'm staying away from them... For the same money I'd get a SnG, an GB or a Terzuola custom (just to name a few)

NsB

PS: Neither cheap-o knives, I got over that a while ago ;)

I definitely don't hate the Sebenza, but I will probably never buy a Chris Reeve knife. To others, they might well be worth the money, but when I spend so much money for a knife, I want it to be a true custom. And I don't find Reeve's designs very attractive.

And I'd definitely never buy a fantasy knife like the ones Gil Hibben offers.

My feelings exactly. I don't care how well it performs, I just can't get myself to love that ugly hunk of titanium and S30V. The Sebenza mob can get annoying.

I would buy a CR knife, but the Sebenza does nothing for me either. I also would never buy a United Cutlery (again, did when I was a kid), Frost and all the other junk.

I'm not too keen on Microtech or Emerson either. Probably great knives, but they don't appeal to me in anyway.

i'm all for good knives, but i don't see what's the X-factor that makes the sebenza so special
i'm not going to say that i won't get a CR knife, but the fact is i'm not interested as of now :)

Don't discount the Sebenza just because of the hype. It lives up to all of it! :D

However, if you don't like the looks of it, there isn't much you can do...

Amen. Their new designs always suck. Meanwhile, it's a huge mystery to my why Schrade refuses to upgrade the one knife they do extrememly well (the carbon steel OT slipjoints), offering a special line with premium handle materials. At the same time, it kills me that, while Case reportedly makes a pretty decent user carbon-steel blade, they offer it on only a tiny percentage of their product line. What's wrong with these numbskulls from Schrade and Case?

Tracer-san,
Save your money on the SnG.
I played with one at the Strider table at the NY Custom Knife Show in Nov.
Blade wobble, non centering blade when closed, little flex in the handle and really gimmicky looking.
Compared to a large Sebenza, it's a toy.
Sebenza's might not be much to look at, but I bought mine to use, not sit on a shelf.
Absolutely, the best bang for the buck in hard use knives!
If you've never used one, you might change your mind by picking one up and using it for a while.
I draw a very definitive line between users and collectors.
Lenny

CRKT - although making very affordable folding knives is a laudable enterprise, their products are not for everyone.

Microtech/MOD - no aluminum in my folders please! (LCC aside)
