what knife brands will you not..........

Cold Steel - Quality control issues. Products are over hyped. Don't like a lot of the designs. Most seem to be good as weapons, not utility.

Emerson - Way overrated. Very poor construction on the models I have handled. (Poor lockup, bad grinds, rough handles. Unacceptable for a knife in this price range.) I also hate the chisel grind. You don't seem to get a lot for your money.

Cheap "Home Shopping Network" or fantasy type knives - If I can't get any use out of them, I don't see the point in owning one.

Spyderco. I think the hole on those knives make them look like a camel, as far as the lock it's not as good as the BM axis.

CRKT. I love The blade style, but from what I've heard I am scared to but one.

Sebenza. I think it looks plain, costs to much, and just not a good combat knife.

Others may not like what I say but its just my own opinions. ;)

Buck. Every Buck fixed blade I have owned was too hard. Every Buck folder I have owned or seen for that matter, looses its point some time in its life. :)
Can't stand serrations on any knife.

Is it supposed to be a good combat knife??

Hey Medic1210,

Touche'. That really made me chuckle. Are you a Sebenza owner too?

No I am not an owner, but I recently tried Rev. Pete's Small classic for over a month, and it had double thumb studs. Also, I am currently in posession of the Large Classic passaround Sebenza with only a single thumb stud (:barf: on the single thumb stud). If I win this when the passaround is over it will definitely be headed to CRK for double thumb lugs. My comment was because I read your post in CR forum re offhand opening.;)

Is the Sebenza supposed to be a good combat knife?

What's a combat knife: a battlefield fighter, a military camp knife, or a self-defense weapon? Not many people carry a more effective self-defense knife than my large tanto Sebenza. It just doesn't look scary. Frankly, I don't think it should look scary. It should look so innocuous that no one knows I've got it -- until I decide to use it.

Any knife with S&W on it.

I can't agree with this Schrade, Old Timers,Uncle Henry as being bad knifes. I have have the same Old Timer for about ten years now with no problems period. Its a folder 2 blades has cleaned who knows how many fish and gutted just as many deer. I just cant agree with that being a bad knife. Maybe the cheap $10 is bad but not the more expensive.. Buck knives are good too. Very hard to sharpen, but once they are sharp they stay sharp for a while. Now these are indeed outdoor knives not tactical.

Any Laguiole NOT made in Thiers France.Almost all low cost Balisongs. Cold Steel, China & Pakistan cheapies.

There is really no brand that I would NEVER buy.

Cause, even the cheap pakistani garbage and the frost/united/etc has a place. One good use is giving them as a major insult to a knife knut.

Discounting the chinese/pakistani/other garbage out of hand, and only looking at the "major" manufacturers, I would think twice about buying:

------------------

MOD : Nice knives, very well built, just not really my style.

Cold Steel: Too much hype for me, too many expensive blades made out of 420 steel

Case: I'm into using knives, not collecting them. Most of case's offerings seem pointed towards the collectors. Nothing wrong with that - just what I'm looking for.

Delta-Z: The knives just don't appeal to me at any price. No real reason.

Ka-Bar: I believe they're owned by CUTCO. Thats enough to keep me far, far away from any of their offerings.

-------------------

I think that once you get past a certain quality - especially the junk knives - and into the decent manufacturers, it is all a matter of taste.

For example, Emerson is listed many times in this thread. Personally, I really like their knives, and have never had problems with them.

But, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I wouldn't limit myself to NEVER buying a knife company, because sometimes, a new product can change your mind. (Who would've ever thought that S&W would make a good quality, decent knife?)

Just my $.02.

Does not matter who makes it,its the price.I will not buy a knife that I could buy a decent handgun for the same price. After all it's only a knife

anything serrated or combo edge. Any one hander that doesn't have a clip I can change over. I've walked away from a lot of great designs because I am not right handed. No Masters of Defense, I wouldn't want to try to defend that in court if it ever came to it. What would I buy? Benchmade Griptilian, Spyderco Endura. Maybe the CRKT DOG. A nicer slipjoint, Queen or Bulldog. More HI khukuris. I like things simple.

ROTFL!!!

Leave it to RL to come up with an obscure nugget of fun. :)

Well, I am embarrased to admit I have a Cliphanger. But honestly, I bought it around 12 years ago ignorant of knives and it was actually pretty sharp!

It's on the For Sale / Production area for around $5.00. I might pay someone to take it.

So, Paragon leads my list. I had an ATKO OTF that was like a butter knife. I mean, it did pop out faster than you can say montekeya , but, still, it went back to the dealer.

And I fully understand Home Shopping Network. A cousin from the family eventually learned about my affinity for knives without fully understanding the breadth of interest. Scoring points, he called me all excited about the great deal on Home Shopping Network, whereupon I tuned in and saw something like 100 knives of all types for around $250.00!!

I had some time explaining to him why this was not considered a good value.

No more United Cutlery, Schrade "modern designs" (I love the OT's though), and will never buy a Frost.

spyderco. too damn ugly :barf:

p.s. being left handed has never stopped me from buying a knife. i can open and close a liner lock better with my left hand than i can my right:D
