What knife company is the most ruinous to your wallet?

I wasn't trying to grammar-slam. I was attempting to communicate that there were so many awesome knife companies to choose from. The use of caps was my effort to emphasize the word.

I can't wait to play with a Pallas flipper. I have their chop sticks on my xmas wish list. I think I convinced the wife we each need a pair. For now, its just the Akribus....

I didn't figure it was your intention - I remain ashamed all the same! Your post actually had the grammatically correct way of phrasing what I had said.

The Akribis is close to my idealized iteration of the Sebenza platform, but the handles are a bit too bulky. Ceramic bearings, good heat treatment, great EDC size and blade shape, unique design, but just too chunky! The Pallas is even more to my liking on paper, with a slightly larger blade, a button lock, a flipper, and a slimmer profile.

For me, right now, it's Cold Steel, for the following reasons:

- AUS8 models that have been phased out are now DIRT CHEAP. Large Polished Espada? $130. Talwar? $40. XL Voyagers? $40-50.
- New finishes on updated models. Stonewashed Spartans and Rajahs in upgraded steel! No more bead-blasted rust monsters!
- BD1/XHP models of knives I already know and love. Counterpoint 1, 4" Ti-Lite, 6" Holdout, Pocket Bushman in BD1 instead of crappy (Kruppy?) 4116...

Seriously, just $40 for this. The price of a Tenacious.

I've already picked up a Large Espada, and I'll be picking up a G10 DLC XHP Espada so I can do a blade swap and have a Tuxedo XHP DLC Polished Espada. Before that (because the G10 DLC XHPs aren't going away anytime soon) I'll be picking up a Talwar in AUS8, maybe a XL Tanto Voyager (basically a folding Kobun), and I have the BD1 Counter Point 1 on my Amazon wish list as I watch for the price to drop - along with the XHP Ti-Lite and the 6" Holdout.

And then there's the 4-Max. Lord help me.

Demko: 4-year waiting list for a $900 knife, or buy it in G10 with all the same functional features for $350.

I used to think Spyderco and ZT might as well just have direct access to my bank account, but Cold Steel is sucking up all my fun money at an unprecedented pace. The worst part? I don't even have the money! I'm planning on buying all this stuff, with absolute conviction and sincerity. Oye. Someone buy my knives so I can buy more knives kthx.
While the 4 Max is credible replica of a Demko custom folder, the Ultimate Hunter is also a similarly designed knife with xhp steel with excellent f and f and great strength for a relatively light weight, A great value.

Just in today: Spartan and Counter Point 1 in CTS-BD1. Shown here with everything else in my carry rotation, on my now-iconic faux-marble table:

How I'm storing them these days:

A couple don't quite fit in my Gentleman's Organizer:

I have to say that I've been on a HUGE Dwayne Dwyer Custom kick lately. I've always been a Strider fan, but I really like Dwayne's style. He is a steel junkie, like many of us here. It doesn't matter what steel he uses, he wrings the absolute best that the steel can give. Many may not know this but Dwyane and Mick have kinda stepped back from Strider and are focusing largely on their own companies. The MSC and DDC lines. Sooooo, Dwayne is putting out some amazingly cool stuff (IMHO).

The constant has always been Spyderco. They are quite simply the best large scale manufacturers of edged tools. They watch, listen, and respond with what the customers want. I will likely never not have 1 or 2 or 20 Spydies.

Gec...so much gec...they hold their value so well and have such low production numbers I feel guilty not buying gec...It's a problem.

What he said. I've bought, let's see...6, this year. Not counting the Northwoods (made by GEC) that I moved on.

I would have to say Reate, and ZT. They both actually perform. I have bought a couple customs and have been very disappointed by the quality. My Horizon D is an amazing knife. Well worth the money compared to most.

It seems my default companies over the past number of years have been CRK and Spyderco, but LionSteel keeps on fighting for a spot.

Undoubtedly, Zero Tolerance Limited Editions including their dealer/distributor exclusives, limited runs, etc.

... And I just exchanged the Spartan for a XHP 4" Talwar, and ordered a DLC XHP Large Espada on credit. Now, the moment of truth: Can I swap the DLC XHP blade into the polished G10 handle and have a tuxedo Espada? We will see.

The knife company that most often conspires to drive my bank account into the ground is Chris Reeve Knives. Second place would go to GEC, but it is a distant second. The rest of my collection consists of one of two models from various companies.

Benchmades since they are slim and strong, but I may have to buy a Reate Kwaiken when they come out. I'm starting to prefer smaller slimmer knives so I may look back to spyderco
