What knife got you addicted to knives

I traded for a used Blur. (from this forum). It is my favorite. I use to think "a knife is a knife" but, I have to say after ordering my 1st custom fixed blade--- I was hooked!!

At first it was the kershaw tanto blur that I bought from walmart. however, I recently purchased a para 2 and have a whoel new appreciation for good quality knives

The BUCK 124 Frontiersman---back in 1970 when i was a kid of 7 yrs old. Now, 42 years later, i am getting one for Christmas. :D

Kershaw Blackout. I found Bladeforums and read a post about the Blackout so I bought one. Found the Buck forum so I bought some of those, then the Spyderco forum and some of those, then ZT more Kershaws and more Bucks, etc. Now some years and thousands of dollars later I'm still hooked. Who knew one website and one knife would lead to so many instances of financial embarassment?

I know some of you will laugh but most of you probably owned one too when you were young. This was the exact knife that got me hooked around 1989. It was a birthday gift the year I saw all the Rambo movies and got obsessed...I was 7,lol. Once I got somewhat in 'the know' I realized how much I wanted the actual Jimmy Lile knife...some day:rolleyes:

Got this after seeing First Blood
I was 13.....

For me it was the Walmart Tanto Blur just a couple years ago. I promptly broke the tip off and bought the S30V version to replace it. It's all been downhill from there, my credit card is currently quivering in fear that I'll max it out ordering blems from the KAI factory sale from Kershawguy. So far I've been pretty good, I've only ordered a 0560 and and Echelon from him..... so far.

PM2. I've had 12 or 13, IIRC, in various blade-steels and configs.

Same here, the RC-4 was the one that got me started. That was about four years ago, I now have 37 various sized fixed blades and about a dozen folding knives.

For me I have liked knives for as long as I can remember but for a long while I was satisfied with those $5 folders from a bargain store or what have you, but I think my twitch II got me started. Once I paid a little more for a knife I was like heeyy, this was worth it then I spiraled down hill from there. I haven't hit rock bottom and got a strider or sabenza or even a high end custom yet though. My day will come though, I am sure of it.

I had alot of Gerbers and whatnot, but that wasnt much.
Gerbers got me addicted to KNIVES.
But...
I got a Cold Steel Mini AK-47 (most of you remember all of that crap ) and then I realized that "better" brands produced much better knives.

This is the one that turned a past time into passion, a Buck Titanium 186; this knife had a lot of first, First Production Titanium folder, first production knife with a clip,(that's right, even before Spyderco), one of the first modern knives meant to be broken down and probably one of the shortest runs for a production Buck.

The knife that got me hooked on knives was a POS Rainbow Ridge Runner that I carried for over a year.
The knife that got me hooked on better knives was the Kershaw Nerve.

This thread got a lot more replies than I thought it would. It's been very interesting reading everyone's posts.

when I was a young kid I saw that the older kids on my street all carried stiletto switch blades, and that was the first thing that got me interested into knives.

It had to be a SAK and an old uncle Henry that was a gift. I had one of these two "survival" knives too... The knife in Rambo definetly didn't help with the addiction to knives.
