Which of your knives seems to get the most use during your outdoor adventures.
I love bigger blades but it is my small knives that seem to get used the most.
Just curious which sized blades you all give the most use to.
Agreed my Scrapper 6 really just sees action in firewood preparation. However my EDC folder, Cold Steel 4 in Voyager, or Spyderco Endura, and occasionally a S&W SWAT are used for food prep, mild shelter-craft, whitling and general camp stuff
For a fixed blade belt knife, right around 4" of cutting edge is what I've come to prefer. It can be just a shade shorter or longer, but 4" is what I shoot for. Anything too much shorter and I might as well be carrying a folder. Anything too much longer seems to be unwieldy when doing finer tasks.
The knife I have that sees the most use? Likely my SAK Farmer, or perhaps my Izula. Then comes one of my choppers.. which I use quite often, in the woods and the kitchen.
Trying to remember the last time I used a knife while camping or hiking. I think it was last summer. I used a koster bushcraft to cut a duck breast. Otherwise my CS Trail hawk has seen the most use. Right now I carry a Gossman UNK on hikes.
Some might laugh, but i have used my Buck 309 "Companion" more than any knife i ever have owned. Followed closely by the Imperial "KampKing" that i bought when i was 8, and semi-retired when i was about 18. That "KampKing" saw much more action, but the "Companion" has it beat in years carried. regards Henry
One of my Swiss Army Knives (whichever one I have on me), my Mora 510, my Case 63032 Medium Stockman, or my modified Breeden Pathfinder would be the ones that see the most use, on or off the trail.
Fixed blade? Probably my Mora Clipper. Gets used almost daily (it rocks as a kitchen knife!). Next in line would probably be my BRKT Liten Bror. Or maybe my Becker Necker... it's a tough call.
Folding knife? Sog Flash 1 followed closely (and soon to be surpassed, I think!) by my Spyderco Tenacious. Love that Spyderco. 30 bucks, man. Damn.
Edged tool in general? My Gransfors Bruks SFA. I use that axe WAY more than I use any knife. Sometimes when I'm in the woods I don't even bother carrying or packing a knife. All I need is a good axe and I'm happy. That thing sees so much use. Best $120 I've ever spent.
I'm not a fan of big knives / choppers. I have a couple but they never get used. The smaller the better, I say.
Lately my JK Rule #9 has been getting used and abused more than anything else. I carry several Old Timers that see some of the finer work but the blade shape and point of the JK works really well for intricate stuff too. If I could live with just one knife...
