What knife to carry while jogging/running?

i would stick with a folder and would look at a salt. the street beat looks neat but i cant see the need for the hole on a fixed blade. another option is a treadmill i bought one and have no regrets.

I used to run with my D2 710 tucked inmy shorts but now I'm using my spyderco lum tanto sprint. Very thin, light, and a big sharp stainless blade.

I know you've been using your Delica4 which isn't a bad choice at all but if you can find an older Delica3 I think it would be even better for jogging. It doesn't have steel liners, only FRN scales so it's lighter than the Delica4 and IMO it has a better pocket clip that allows the knife to clip deeper into a pocket, waist band, etc.
I would probably carry the Delica3 or a Dragonfly myself.

If you can't find a Delica3 or find the Dragonfly to small, one of the H1 salt knives would be perfect.

Wow. I can't believe that you haven't had a shred of common sense in this whole thread. I don't get it. You are a runner, and have obviously never had a lick of knife training. How about "keep running"?

Hasn't anyone ever told you people that a knife is NOT a weapon?

What kind of scenario do you people have in your minds? You're running along and a baddie appears. What's he got, a knife or a gun? You think the guy is going to chase you with a knife waving around in the air? How "in shape" do you think muggers are? If he has a gun, WTF are you going to do with your knife besides gently handing it to him? You go so far as to think that a bigger knife is better for that extra 3/8" more "range"?

Un@#$%ing believable.

OK. I'll answer that. I've actually used my knife twice while running. Once was to cut a dog loose that was tangled up in a rope and the second was to remove a large wooden splinter. The second does come from inattention. I run outdoors on trails occasionally and didn't notice a broken limb across the trail.

Knives are tools and aren't always used as weapons. Having said that I would prefer to have something with me if I did need it. Not everyone runs in an environment where help is readily available.

I used to run with one clipped in my front bdu pocket in the winter, it would open while running, I sent it to Emerson and they replaced it with a waveless model. Same thing happened. I told Ernest Emerson of my plight at the atlanta blade show. His reply; Don't run with it!!!!!!I traded it off at another table.(this happened a few years ago) My heavy running knife is a ZT302 but my summer knife is the Pacific salt plain edge.

Lol, that's too funny. So what does he tell all those SEAL's that carry his knives?

OP, Spyderco Military.

A rather large, toothy brown dog would have met the business end of my 710 if his lead (that I couldn't see) hadn't stopped him from catching me. 4 legs > 2 legs :)

That's the worst thing on trails: idiots with poorly-trained anti-social dogs (not on a leash). I've never had a problem with wild life, on the other hand, non-native fauna are bound to give you problems.

I assume that must be for the extra "reach". Can't be for the extra "practicality".

I don't get caught up in all the SD BS, I like the millie, its one of my favorite folders for reasons of a great handle and a blade that cuts like few others can. It also happens to be light, have a good clip, good blade retention, quick to deploy, and goes unnoticed IWB.

I also find knives with a 3in blade useless because it takes more effort to make the cut and they don't fill my hand.

One of the Spyderco Salts. Light and won't rust. Simple choice.
Fighting with a knife is to be avoided if at all possible though. It's not like in the movies.
First choice should be simply to pick up the pace.

Somebody from "Bear Lodge" probably shouldn't critique an urban scenario they can't comprehend. Once a girl approached me asking if I could talk to her for a few minutes to discourage the animal who had been stalking her as she jogged in the local park. She ws terrified and had gone so far as to pick up a rock for protection, I saw him, confronted him and he had NO weapon at all. Lots of these guys prey on fear and don't even have a weapon.
