I’ve owned one and fount it to be more of a utility knife profile. It was nice for sure, but not a shape made for the same purposes of a DEK.Sounds like an EDC would be a good candidate.
Kind of the same issue: the profile doesn’t suite well for what I have in mind.Try a Kephart. For whatever reason, people like it better.

That blade is about 3" along the edge, and about 7/8" from spine to edge, (at its widest), to give you some perspective.
So that gives you some wiggle room between 3" and 4.5" to maneuver.
That thing looks nice. CPK still holds my heart, but I'm going to start shopping for one of those in the meantime.
I looked around and saw that he’d passed. You know I’m hitting you up next time I’m out that way; beers will be on me.Sadly, Darrel is no longer with us...and he made that and surprised me with it years ago as a gift. His step-son made the sheath.
I'm sure there are knives like it, but I don't know if he ever had any produced as a mid-tech or similar. This one is S90V and Micarta.
Let me know if and when you're back stateside and local...maybe I can help you find something.
Look forward to it,I looked around and saw that he’d passed. You know I’m hitting you up next time I’m out that way; beers will be on me.
You might find the Dek3 a bit to thin! Though, depends how hard you are on your knives in camp use. But the tip is ground real thin and doesnt come with the same rough use warranty as the other models. That said it is still a CPK soI choose the majority of fixed blades based on how they would be for carrying on long backpacking or hiking trips. I’d absolutely love to see a good backpacking type knife from CPK. For me this means it’d be decent for most bushcrafting and camp chores while being pretty lightweight. So… <5oz, around a 4” blade/8.5” OAL, stock around 0.13”
Kind of like a DEK1 with thinner stock and slightly less palm swelling. The DEK3 might end up being pretty close, but I haven’t seen any yet, so I shall see.
Indeed ! Do you have a Behemother and a BC ? If so, how do they compare ? I absolutely adore my BC but can’t really comprehend the differences by just reading the specs.
I didn't realize that Dan Quayle was a member here.More potatoe knives. Please lol
Mr. Finkbeiner Jr,I think ya'll should step out ya'll's comfort zone and try something totally different like an Osoraku Zukuri blade shape.
Mr. Finkbeiner Jr,
I’d bet that the expert makers of Carothers Performance Knives are open to suggestions on future additions to their amazing product line. However, I’m just a collector and a zealot. That being said, am I spelling “Osoraku Zukuri” correctly when I enter it in the “search function”?
I’m asking as a fan of CPK and bladed instruments in general but when I searched the name of your suggestion, it drew a blank. Thank you .
