What knife would you like to see next from CPK?

The current production schedule is perfect for me as I’m most anxious to pick up an EDC, light chopper, and SDFK (who am I kidding, I’ll buy anything they offer at this point 🤣) but I would love to see a CPK designed combat/utility axe in the 13-15” range.

Or an Ulu :)
Maybe with some Ecam scales

I do love my ulus, and it is a long time goal of mine to actually have an ulu made with honest-to-God good steel. The trouble with ulus is that there are so many patterns, and most of the time when folks try to make a "good" ulu, they try to get creative. I grew up in Nome, Alaska, so the "right" kind of ulu for me has always been a Fish River style (traditional ulus from most of the Seward Peninsula and Barrow follow this pattern). If you haven't used one, it seems like having the blade come out of the middle of the handle would be a disadvantage, but it actually makes it much easier to control and do fine work. I really hate the ones with cutouts, they seem fancier, but they are much less pleasant to use.

One bit of non-traditional design that I hope for when I finally get/make a nice ulu is to have a symmetrical grind instead of the the more traditional chisel grind. I've never understood why the chisel grind is so common on metal ulus. The archaeological ulus I've seen with slate blades had symmetrical grinds, and the few Native women I've known who were picky/well-off enough to commission custom ulus also opted for symmetrical grinds, but most of what you'll see are chisel grinds. I find the chisel grind hard to use for skinning/fish processing, and frankly, not even great for slicing cheese.

I thought I would throw thus video in too since a fair number of people had liked my ulu post. The "fastest woman with an ulu" is from my hometown. She's quite a bit younger than me, but I went to school with an older sister of hers. Unfortunately this clip doesn't let you really appreciate her speed and skill in an uninterrupted way, but you can get a sense of the skill folks who use the ulu a lot can gain. You'll also notice that she uses a Fish River style ulu.

I would love a DEK1 with a 6 or 6.5 inch blade, same thickness as the original, and the handle scaled up. I'd buy that as quick as I could! I think that may very well be the perfect knife
Sounds like the UF2, to me.

That was pretty much what I thought, when I got my DEK1 (“Hey, this is like the UF1/UF2’s little brother”).

You're right. I'm an idiot. For some reason I thought the DEK1 had more belly and blade height. I just compared the 2 side by side and they're basically the same. That's what I get for posting late at night when I'm half asleep. Sorry about that.

Man I wish they’d make a scaled up version of the UF with an 8” blade and fewer compromises for concealability…
