• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

what knives do you bring camping/hiking

camping-swamp rat howling rat, bark river canadian special or ranger rd6
hiking-frost mora 780 or 740, gossman psk or bark river micro canadian

Thats a good question. I always have my SAK, but I have just recieved a bunch of new blades, I wouldn't know which to bring. I know it would be between 4 and 5 inches though. Most likely my new Fiddleback or Breeden Spear point. If I was camping I'd also bring my HI AK for chopping.

Totally depends. There are a few factors to keep in mind: location, length of trip, etc.

I usually carry SAK Camper, Machete, CRKT Kasper, and my Schrade Uncle Henry. I alternate with a handful of others if I get the whim to do so. I will try and toss up some pics sooner or later..

i usually have either my SAK camper or farmer... for fixed blades, over the past few years i've been carrying my gene ingram #30 drop point, just about everytime i go out into the woods.... i am also a sucker for a small fixed blade or necker.. so i sometmes carry a bark river mikro-canadian or PSK...

here's a pic for a recent 4 day archery shoot.. the ML deep woods bowie and GB wildlife hatchet, reside in my camping box, with the rest of my camping gear..

Not all are carried at the same time.... all the time.;)

i pretty much always have my trusty mora #1, but i am building a new belt knife for myself...

and i always have a folder, lately a buck stockman.

in my bag, depending on several factors, i might also be carrying my CS kukri (LTC i think), a large pruning saw, and a couple of other fixed blades.

Well One of my Knives from Stomper but how do I choose? :D Makbe the third from the right, the wood craft. But the first one, Camp Cook knife will have to go along too.

me ,whether a short hike or fishing.....
1. SAK Hiker
2. RC3 or RC4
3. necker of sorts..izula proto type or SW or BK11

Whats up w/ my computer, I can not see Bears or Tarmix's pics, is any one else having this problem?

Now it works:D

It really depends on what we're doing. If it's a day hike where we're rock climbing and bouldering it's most likely a folder, small SAK and maybe a smaller fixed blade knife. If it's a short distance backpacking trip, I'll add a few more; if it's truck camping, I'll bring a small footlocker to play with:D My last day hike, this is what I used:

Here's a few other combinations I've used before:

Here's a combo that I took hunting a few years ago (yeah, it's normally more than I pack for just a single day hunt):

I almost always have at least a SAK (prefer the Outrider) or mult-tool. Wouldn't be caught without some time of locking folder for the pocket. Typcially have a fixed blade from 4" to 6" on my person and depending on the activity or the mood, a larger chopper or axe (usually in the pack). Another item I've started carrying more is a folding saw (Kershaw/Bahco, Silky or Gerber).

My current bunch for camping, hiking, fishing, or hunting:

SAK Farmer deep in my pocket
Breeden Pathfinder hanging on my belt
Usually have one of my Spyderco folders along as well--Mini Manix, Delica, or Caly Jr. get the most pocket time.

I don't know Rock, don't you think you should be a little better prepared???:D

I think B.T.D. got it right::p

Rock do you really carry 5 knives on a dayhike?

I carry the extra weight purely for the physical conditioning...doesn't everyone?;)

rock, very sweet looking fehrman knives...?

That Last Chance is a great blade; it's a mid-size where it does small chores okay and it will still chop adequately enough to make a shelter.
