What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Okay, I figured I would come to the Barlow experts :). Does anyone know if it is possible to find one of these models for sale anymore?
Great Eastern TC Barlow Huckleberry Boys Knife Saddle Brown Sawcut Bone 151113STL Or at least the TC Barlow in the clip point version? I really have a hankering for one as my first delve into slipjoints.

The clips are long sold out. The aftermarket is your best bet, but it may take a while. Next year we may see some marked UN-X-LD, if GEC follows its one true path!!

Love it! Love it! Love it! :D
I can't wait to put a decent edge on this baby! Wow! and Wow again! Did I say that I Love it!?
Charlie, You and the nice folks at GEC are amazing!:thumbup:

I can see why you love it so much, that's why I do.
waiting for mine tp arrive

Mike

I was just wondering when we might see an UN-X-LD version of the TC Barlow. Here is to hoping for a Northfield TC Barlow with a Drop Point blade or a Wharncliffe blade with cocobolo, snakewood, and kingwood covers!

The TC Barlow is a GEC Special Factory Order and the Huckleberry Boys Knife is a GEC factory model; only the Barlow was/is available in Sawcut Bone. The clip models are long gone in the Barlows, but there are HBK's available in clip blade versions in various handle materials. Hope this clears things up!

A few weeks ago, I received a very nice e-mail from Bladeplay74, in which he very kindly offered to cure me of my then state of “Barlowlessness”. He had a used Barlow that he said he’d like to put in my pocket, it had a bit of blade play and was in need of sharpening, but he was fairly sure that I’d like it. Imagine my astonishment when I went to the Post Office to pick up this work of art, a custom Barlow by Ray Smith with mammoth ivory covers! I’ll let the pics speak for themselves. Thank you very much Bladeplay74, I’m flabbergasted. It’s a great knife, beautifully made, and it means a great deal to me.

Jack-oh man-that looks to be one absolute beaut-u must show me that one please in person. Well done to both of you guys.

That's a fine and generous gift Jack. Ray Smith, as I'm sure you know, is a well known ABS Mastersmith. I'm sure you will treasure that.

From barlowless to mammoth custom....zing ...zammm...batman!! What a treasure, Jack. Kudos to bladeplay74

lots of great looking barlow knives here. I was wondering though, is it the handle shape that makes the barlow, because i see different blades on many.

The handle shape on the one side an the long-bolster-construction on the other side. It doesn´t depend on the bladeshape as far as I see :)
