What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I'm so glad that pic turned out so great! :)

Duncan also gave me my first clip-point Charlow :) Thanks again pal

How cool! ^^
No problems Jack, the day I ordered those knives off Charlie, this was set aside! and its Thank you! - I have yet to take photo's of your absolute treasure( s ) you have gifted me, coming up soon mate!

Cool photo eh Charlie-and Jack was indeed correct, you were there in spirit! I also have my Clip point pointing towards historical sight in Highlands ( taken on an cable chair - Glencoe ) , I will do a bit more research to find out what happened there ( as this was told to me by my Father -in-law ).

I had it with me yesterday Duncan, on a long hike along the Leeds-Liverpool canal (along with the great Carl Schlieper you gave me). Love the clip on these Charlie, really nicely done

Great photos and story. The Charlow returns to Sheffield via USA->Canada-> New Zealand. That only took about 300 years since Sheffield started shipping them out :-). I think I see a family resemblance between you two gentlemen.

Well, I don't get near a computer much while I am traveling, but I made sure I got back to this thread today! Thanks for bringing that Stan/Duncan pic over to this page, Jon! I had to look at it again (and again!).
You are right, Sheila, this thread keeps getting better! It's the enthusiasm of the folks that post here, for sure.
Glad you like that Clip blade Jack. We are hoping to have a couple more Barlow blades for you to enjoy before the year is out!

Great photos to start my day. Jon, what is the handle material on the Remington clip?

I always appreciate when someone likes a photo of mine, thanks! The handle is supposed to be Mother of Pearl. Im having trouble believing it. Here are a couple more pictures, what do you think?

I do not have enough experience to know. But it sure looks nice!

I would appreciate opinions, education, and/or photos about MOP as a handle material. Is it durable? I presume it is expensive. Was it used much on Barlows? I always think of it on Gentleman's knives, little things someone in a tux would take to the opera... Is anyone making traditional knives or Barlows with MOP nowadays?

When me and Duncan were talking to Stan Shaw the other week, he said that MOP had increased dramatically in price, to about £100 (Sterling) a knife!

Here's a couple crappy cell phone pics of my new Queen City barlow. I don't know much about old Queens but the tang stamp seems to indicate a 1922-1932 production date. I'll try to get some better pictures when I get a chance.
