What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I think the idea was to get a blade open one handed, while holding something in the other hand. IMO, it is not strictly a design for an amputee.

Here is a true one-armed man knife. Not used much, my father-in-law left it to me. He had a very effective hook for a left hand, which he preferred to use along with his good right hand.
He gave up his hand, and a good bit of his health jumping into France during WWII.

Thanks For the story Charlie, I have been wanting to hear it ever since you posted this last year.

Thanks for sharing that incredible story with us Charlie. I'm way behind with this thread, but got a Charlow in my pocket today (the one Duncan gave me in Sheffield last year) :)

Thanks all for appreciating Stew. He was a great man. Thanks for bringing that one hand knife forward, Ryan!
I heard the blades are all punched out for the 1-H Barlow, and are in the lineup for heat treat!

In starting this latest iteration of the TC Barlow, my father-in-law Stew (H. Stewart Brown) keeps popping into my thoughts....

Knives have been used to commemorate various events, and people in History. Stew, this one's for you!!

Charlie,

As you know, I've been leaning hard into hopes for a Razor Barlow since the possibility was first mentioned. You've shared your desire to honor your father-in-law before, but reading your words here-- especially with the photographs-- opens new levels of impact. I would say "levels of understanding," but I'm not sure I do understand; I know only that I am deeply moved.

Thank you.

~ P.

Thank you arizonaranchman - I have had these a while - just waited to a good time to finally take some pictures of them. I thought they turned out pretty well - nice soft light! I now wish I had taken my other two out for the shoot tonight.

That soup bone Charlow is def the most unique of all the scales Charlie has used so far. The texture in particular is interesting.

Thanks for showing these great pictures, Icie, Arizona, Christian and Primble!

P, thanks for the thoughtful look and comments.

... and I don't even have to worry about being flagged :)

..... flogged by the missus, maybe

Man oh man, all these pictures of beautiful Charlows are making me jealous! I've missed out on past releases, and I'm not too keen on the Razor Barlow, however the sentiment going into this version is very moving indeed.

Looking forward to seeing these when they come out, I believe I'll still hold off and hope to get my hands on a clip or spear sometime down the road, a man can dream!
